Is he overrated?
>>73352050
Nah
>>73352050
Hey Joe.
>>73352061
he couldn't even read music tho
>>73352076
Nah
>>73352076
The Beatlea couldn't either iirc
>>73352105
Nah
A bit, but not greatly. One of the only virtuosos who could write good songs to go along with his solos, plus unlike Clapton he was an interesting/exciting singer.
I wonder how /mu/ would react if it existed when he did his star spangled banner performance.
Of course, everyone normies like is.
>>73352076
The best ones cant...
>>73352050
Just a little bit. He's still pretty good for dadrock.
>>73352050
It's difficult to overestimate his influence, but not impossible. So basically, a tiny bit yes
>>73352050
no but his legacy has been damaged by too many releases after he died
Im a back door maynee
One of the few artists worth the hype, like Black Sabbath
he's dead. been dead for 47 years.
Overrated? Well as of 1970, no.
His cover of All Along the Watchtower is overrated, missing the point of the origonal song and replacing it with a bombastic solo.
>>73352050
The Liszt of electric guitar. The fact that he was not as good as Liszt is just due to the fact that rock music is shit and electric instruments are essentially worthless.
>>73352076
Most of the best don't give a flying shit about theory in general. Some might read it but don't care.
Then there are people like Johnny Greenwood that are theory masters and still make good songs.
>>73353371
>Most of the best
Yeah, no shit, that's what happens when most of what you listen to is in C-Am-F-G. Your ''best'' musicians are just charlatans.
>>73353390
Good music is good music buddy.
>>73352050
Joe Rogan?
>>73352050
>>73352141
Nah, he's worthy. The real genius lies in his rhythm playing though.
>>73353447
But what IS good music?
>>73353390
I get you man 1-6-4-5 progressions were done best by Motown. Now it's all uninspired noodling and lifeless 3 note melodies. Jaimie knew what was up though. His playing is theoretically genius. For instance on 5 chords he'll bend over the the tonic which sound just like a crazy guitar movement but the minor second of the tonic is the Tritone of the 5th. It's the blues note in a different key!
nope
>>73353150
wrong
>>73353150
Well, Bob Dylan preferred Jimi's version. That should tell you something even if you don't like his playing.
>>73352076
And beethoven couldn't hear it. What's your point?
>>73352050
Massively. He has never put out anything that is even average. You can talk all you want about influence, but that doesn't make the music good.
great guitar player, ok songwriter, decent vocalist. as someone said, his brilliance is in his rhythm guitar. it's a kind of time-stretching flow of electric noise. there were more imaginative melodic players though.
he was already burning out by the time of electric ladyland. his first album is his best.
his Axis is amazing, all else is either average or bad
>>73352050
Yes. More peolpe have rated him then there ever needed to be. He is overrated.
>>73352634
Hendrix isn't even dadrock. Van Halen, Aerosmith, Guns 'n' Roses, some Beatles, sure, but not Hendrix. How many casual music listeners of "dadrock" can name more than a couple Hendrix besides Purple Haze, AAtWT, Hey Joe, if even, etc.?
