As I do agree that Hendrix was not technically the best guitarist of all time he was the most influential guitar player of the era and he would inspire almost every rock musician up into the 80s (as far as popular music goes.) But even now he influences rock. He mixed blues with rock creating what we know today. He was the bridge between blues and rock

When talking about best musicians, I usually say best musician in rock as opposed to the best musician. My knowledge in other genres is more limited so I don't claim that the best rock guitarist is the best guitarist across the board. The best guitarist in rock is Robert Fripp btw
