This is their best album, right? Anyone prefer Surfer Rosa?
I prefer the more erratic nature of Surfer Rosa. Also that Albini drum sound.

I dont know Why everyone shits themselves over that sound

I'll give the album some more time but it just seems like the Pixies really defined their sound on Doolittle

I'm not the same anon as >>73307121, but I love Albini's drum because it reminds me of when I used to play with my bandmates. It kind of feels like you are next to it.
I'm also more of a Surfer Rosa kind of person, and even though I love all their work (before they disbanded, not the current one), it's slighty above the rest of the albums, but at the same level of Come On Pilgrim. They feel kind of gritty in a very pleasant way.

I guess I know That's the deal with the sound. I never did play in a band or obsess with the 'live-sound' so yeah. I guess I see the appeal. Additionally, I love Surfer Rosa but I think Doolittle is their Magnum Opus, very varied and incredible songs. One of my all time favorites most def.

Surfer Rosa + Come on Pilgrim > Doolittle > Surfer Rosa
The Breeders are superior

Pre breakup they never released anything less than8/10, so it's hard to totally decide but Doolittle has the best songwriting and tightest ideas. Post Doolittle has sloppy writing, pre Doolittle has simpler instrumentation. Doolittle had the best balance. The best album is overall subjective.
Next to trompe le monde it's my favorite and I believe it's their best work
trompe le monde is their best, bossanova is second
