the artist and his contemporaries are the ones who define the value of one's work. when black sabbath started everyone hated them, including the vast majority of the public and the critics. if his spergy and narcissistic statement were true, black sabbath would not have been remembered by anyone, and would have influenced no one.
but whatdya know, their contemporaries saw what they were trying to convey with their music, and imitated them. and now black sabbath are recognized as one of the most influencial rock bands in the history of music.
