t. "I'm a 19 year old in his first two years of browsing but I browse bandcamp until I find enough albums to try and hide the fact that I think Drunk is a good album"
what a fucking cuck
>>73280146
Name 2 albums better than Drunk
feist
>>73280146
Projecting much there, buddy?
>>73280146
If this isn't projecting I don't what is.
>>73280183
that's too fucking easy, I could list any album that has legitimately any smidgen of personality
any Mac DeMarco album is better than Drunk for instance
>>73280218
>>73280248
are you fucking defending Thundercat
>>73280183
not him but
Saagara - 2
Sufjan Stevens - Planetarium
and those are just the 2 basic ones that came to mind
>>73280269
>>73280270
Challenge accepted
>>73280269
I'm not saying Drunk is AOTY but it's certainly not worth having a temper tantrum over.
>>73280269
So far Drunk is annihilating This Old Dog and I'm on the 3rd song now and it isn't getting much better. What's the specific appeal of these first 3 songs? I'm even handicapping Drunk by comparing 3.5 minutes vs 6 minutes of This Old Dog. I just finished the 3rd song and it's practically a throw away. I really can't see this getting more than a 3/5 and if it doesn't get any better let alone get worse then it's looking at a 2/5
>>73280090
I really can't sit through this ugly conflict of lyrics and instrumentation. Maybe the point is that death is ugly, and that's perfectly acceptable, but not my cup of tea.
>>73280760
To clarify by lyrics I meant vocal performance, sorry.
but >>73280090 is pretty good
>>73280269
For the First Time vs Lava Lamp is the closest comparison so far and I will actually give it to Mac
And we're pretty much back to banality with One Another although the chorus is nice enough.
>>73280901
are you listening to both albums at the same time
>>73281130
No I'm alternating in basically equal blocks and I just finished the first side of This Old Dog with the last song Sister being a strong contender for worst song between the two prove me wrong. The previous song Still Beating demonstrates Mac's limitations as he couldn't fit another verse into what is a very decent foundation ultimately gone to waste without elaboration.
>>73280127
your taste sucks
>>73281240
Any particular reason?
I've just made this.
I didn't think my taste was this shit, but this chart is pretty damning. I don't properly start digging for albums until late in the year.
Recs are most welcome.
>>73280269
>any Mac DeMarco album is better than Drunk for instance
neo-/mu/ everyone
>>73280090
Easy.
On the Level just basically guaranteed that This Old Dog will get a 3/5
>>73280269
Watching Him Fade Away could be a literal masterpiece and I'm still giving This Old Dog a 3/5. So if you wanna go ahead and start matching up songs I'll go through them both all over again. As mentioned I've already started with For the First Time vs Lava Lamp with Mac winning that one so you're already ahead.
I need a 2/5
>>73280127
Hey mate give this album a listen if you're keen, you might like it. It's a really bizarre, yet fun and playful indie pop album, a lot of unexpected sounds and moments in it.
Tiny Hazard - Greyland
>>73282047
Ok but I'm gonna try and not rate anything until I get a 2/5. My curve is everything to me. You have some 4/10s right?
>>73282086
Yeah but I reckon you've listened to most of my 4/10s
>>73282137
Yeah I'll give Tim Bowness a try though. After I finish Tiny Hazard because you're right I'm hooked immediately.
Hairshirt of Purpose
Sorcerer
Why Love Now?
Odd Hours
Powerplant
>>73282209
It's such a surprising album, like each track goes in such a different direction, it kind of reminds me a bit of Cibo Matto. It's definitely a possible aoty for me.
Tim Bowness was a bit bland, I don't think it was too bad just not really interesting at all.
>>73282292
how could one album possibly be this monotonous
Pic related
People don't want to admit it's a contender because it's hip hop and did well with normies
>>73281367
whatever man and
>>73282282
>It's definitely a possible aoty for me.
I admit I'm kinda freaking out. Thanks for the rec.
>>73282337
Have you tried playing it in reverse order?
>>73282352
and what?
>>73282137
This is like the third time I've seen your chart on here and I still can't believe you think Humanz is as good as DAMN. and Uyai
>>73282328
did not listen 3 but you alright More Life, the pinnacle of an age, and the Kendrick version of Gorillaz "Humanz" forced pop rap, <-- this not a negative critic, but that alright for him, just don't overrate.
More Life top 1 though
>>73282370
No I actually haven't even though I've heard it like 10 times by now
Is it just a meme or does it really give more context to the album?
>>73282393
I think so but you're way more familiar with it than I am. As I recall the first line of the last song is something about going in reverse and then at the end of it the song actually plays in reverse. And I will admit I didn't go through the whole thing like that but the first few songs were striking.
>>73282304
That's slowcore for ya
>>73282422
I'm going to listen to it for myself soon, just read a Genius thread about it. There are a few blatant connections to endings/beginnings of tracks but only in reverse
>>73282385
Demon Albarn descended to the lowest level of dantes Inferno and made Gorillazz the definition of a bad band and a forced direction. Pathetic.
Everything arround that Humanz thing sounded pathetic and forced to the point you just havent to actully listen to the album to know what that shit flip-fl
ops
Lol baka the most punchable shit pf the last 2 years
passable
>>73282511
How drunk are you rn?
>>73282037
Samantha Glass - Introducing the Confession
>>73282712
Thanks, sucks it's not on rym though which is why I need it. Almost like someone's trying to hide it.
Still reeling from Kirin J Callinan, fuck that was a good album.
>>73283005
ah yeah, maybe give Sophia Kennedy's self titled album a try. I feel bad suggesting it here because she does seem like she's trying for an interesting sort of take on indie pop but something feels off with it.
>>73283056
Thanks, starting now.
>this
>>73282137
>>73282385
I find it even more baffling he found all of that to be better than A Crow Looked at Me
>>73283056
I dunno I was kinda getting into her and feeling a 3 so I switched about halfway to Big Walnuts Yonder with Mike Watt
This or Slowdive
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SDa_Jqmuiw&t=21s
I think I may have found my perfect 2/5
Gnod - Just Say No
And I'm damn tempted to go 1/5 after just the first song which works too.
>>73282385
My 6/10 rating is usually for albums that I sort of enjoy, but not completely. Or in the case of Humanz and DAMN, both albums were overall disappointing for me, but had some decent standalone tracks.
>>73283139
It was way too personal and depressing for me. I feel like after a few listens I've gotten everything out of that album, the instrumentals were pretty simple, which is something I'm not too keen on in singer songwriter type stuff. I don't think it's a bad album, but for personal enjoyment, it's not really for me. Like the highly praised 2014 album Benji, by Sun Kil Moon, I couldn't stand it, way too stripped down for me taste.
I went ahead with a 1/5 for Gnod and I'm leaning toward 4/5 for Big Walnuts Yonder but gonna let it settle.
I just updated my chart with Tiny Hazard, Necrot and Miss Tara who I can't find on rym unfortunately. I was really impressed with her album the day it came out way back on January 16th so I'm glad to finally be giving her attention now that I've started making charts.
>>73282287
correct
>>73285400
I've had the track Ekon stuck in my head all day since listening to the Tiny Hazard album.
I still need to relisten to that Kasabian album too.
>>73280090
Anyone who says otherwise is a filthy classcuck bootlicker.
B A S H
>>73280685
honestly its the last 3 songs on This Old Dog that really do it
>>73285718
Kasabians not exactly a strong 4 don't get me wrong but it's certainly a surprising 4 for me.
I hope everyone in Brooklyn's getting on Tiny Hazard because they've got a couple shows coming up and I bet it's fucking awesome. Hopefully they tour soon.
>>73286199
ONE OUT OF FUCKING FIVE
Good production but that's about it. Everything else is pure pleb filter.
>>73286199
kys commie shit
>>73280183
1. Mount Eerie
2. Jackie Ch-
FUCK
Slowdive
>>73285400
I thought that Gnod album was pretty cool, do you not like their other stuff too?
>>73286641
It's the only thing I've heard and actually never even heard of them before but offhand among many things for example the last song I just think wow do they like Clikitat Ikatowi too? Regardless though I just insist everyone is getting sold on the production which I reiterate is quite good. I dunno its all relative but from the noise rock angle this thing is gonna get blown out of the water by Krause, Stabscotch, the list goes on. Compositionally there is just really nothing going on with Gnod at all, and I blame that on the apparent revolving door they have. On this album at least its really worked to their disadvantage.
>>73280269
>any Mac DeMarco album is better than Drunk for instance
christ, get a job kid
>>73286706
Worth checking out Mirrors and Chaudelade or however you spell that second one.
>>73286918
I really need to get off the fence on Spoon. Do you like it more than their last one?
>>73286968
never really gave the last one a proper listen
decided to check this one out because I was really into transference and some of their other older stuff a few years ago
but yeah, this wasnt bad at all, not mind-blowing but solid
>>73287076
Did you hear the new Sun Kil Moon/Jesu? I liked it but prefer Common as Light which I have a top score although admittedly it hasn't ever been in rotation.
Nah.
This is.
>>73287113
ive heard a coupla songs but still need to give it a proper look
but Common As Light's probably the number 1 this year so far for me
my aotys
>>73280090
dude that album is just in one ear and out the other
good lyrics but nothing else
>>73287124
liking this alot just wished i hadnt listened to the singles so much. Also it feels much shorter than 50 minutes because of the diversity of sound which is always nice
>>73287797
What were the singles besides GOLD and FACE?
I never listened to them before the album.
>>73282712
I don't recognize alot of these, but I liked Visible Cloaks, Gag, GT Ultra, and Jlin. Didn't really like Oto Hiax. Any more of these I should check out? Any rock albums on here?
>>73286199
this album was horrible
>>73287866
HEAT, STAR, BOYS
>>73287866
GOLD, FACE, HEAT, STAR. All have dope videos too if you havent seen them yet
>>73287738
Big Walnuts Yonder kinda blew my mind and was way off my radar, thanks for the rec.
>>73288232
No problem dude. Got any recs for me?
>>73287870
USA/MEXICO and Taiwan Housing Project are rock, they are good though USA/MEXICO is like really simple in structure and more about the timbre from everything being too loud. Joshua Abrams album sort of sits somewhere between chicago post rock and chicago jazz, I think that's worth checking out too. and the Nicole Mitchell is more in the jazz camp though it gets weird about it.
>>73282137
>the gag file
>4
top keks famalam
>>73280218
>>73280248
>Muh PROJECTINGGGGG meme
>>73282137
Yikes. This is backwards almost.
>>73288510
Just not really my style, nothing against the album itself
>>73288616
How so? How many albums from it have you heard?
>>73288484
Thanks for the recs man! I will check these out
>>73288287
Utopianisti - Brutopianisti maybe? At least I think that's what the name is.
Right now I'm playing Partaker and I love the fucking shit out of this thing although I very begrudgingly gave it a 2/5 objectively.
https://rateyourmusic.com/~FlyingIceWizard
although this is literally the only album I've bought all year, fell off the music wagon for a while
i'll probably give a lot of the ones ITT a listen
>>73289651
>"Bought"
Jesus Christ
>>73289699
It was a limited live recording that wasn't released digitally and half of the rips of it so far have been fakes or recordings of other concerts, I don't regret it
You are able to buy music when you want and pirate it at other times you know
>>73283108
only correct answer
>>73282137
>Slowdive that low
>Humanz better than it
>A Crow Looked At Me not at least an 8
WRONG
