fucking Nine Inch Nails and every band i've listened to as a kid
Roger Waters is really obvious with his lyric meanings but does it well.
But it is fun to decipher a true meaning out of something weird, like in Tool.
There's room for both methods.
The club isn't the best place to find a lover
So the bar is where I go (mmmm)
>Me and my friends at the table doing shots
Drinking fast and then we talk slow (mmmm)
And you come over and start up a conversation with just me
>IM TIRED OF THIS SOCIAL MEDIA SITE AND I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT IN MY SONG!
>lyrics are loud enough to understand
>song has lyrics

go read some poetry lyricfag
>lyrics are so fucking dark and grim and people are still surprised when the artist kills himself

go listen to some post-rock instrumentalfag

not even talking about instrumentals. lyrics can't single-handedly make songs good though in the way music can.

Rap is an entire genre against that sentiment.
The problem with mayofags is that they only use lyrics as a way to exclaim their junior high emo poetry and their FEE FEES really loudly, so you get a lot of shitty lyrics, while lyrics can and should be used as an instrument, as part of the music that leads the listener through the song and sets the tone for the music.

I agree with you, but good, meaningful lyrics can turn a good song into a fantastic song. That, or they can turn a good song into a bad song.
>lyrics literally give away artist's personal address
>lyrics are beautiful poems about the love for life
>they're for a harsh noise album

>Rap is an entire genre against that sentiment
even though the genre often relies on backing tracks with a certain level of musical integrity to attract interest?

agreed. a song with good music is made better on a subjective level if the lyrics resonate with the listener. if the song is bad musically it will objectively fail whatever the lyrics though.
