Just about to finish listening to this for the first time and HOLY SHIT IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED!
Also listened to the new SZA and Fleet Foxes records today and they were both good.

Yeah I listened to Fleet Foxes for my first time today too and agree it was good. The question is how good.

I think I'm gonna need a few more listens to fully make up my mind on Crack Up. It clicks immediately but also doesn't, if you know what I mean. It's beautiful but I think there were layers that I didn't get the first time around.

Crack Up is my #1. It does take a few listens and you need to listen through headphones to catch a lot of the layers and subtleties. It's a really beautiful record and their best, IMO.

It was actually the first Fleet Foxes record I'd listened to in full, but I really liked it. So lush, better than the sad white-boy folk I was expecting.
What did you think of the new Mount Eerie?

Their debut is more stereotypical indie-folk, but Helplessness Blues and Crack Up are really good and explore some different themes for the genre in different ways. They have really interesting melodies as well.
It's good but just not something that I can go back to very much. I think I listened to it only like once or twice.
This is my 217 chart, just for everybody's edification.

Ah ok cool, maybe I'll chuck on Helplessness Blues tomorrow.
These are my top for 2017 so far, some anon in a previous thread recommended Yowie's Synchromysticism, and that's probably my AOTY now, so good

It's a lot more upbeat than Crack Up but it's still really good.

Oh shit thanks for the tip on Big Walnut Yonder. I recognize that old fart.
