what non-vidya music genre is FF inspired from? i'm assuming some subgenre of classical?
anyone got any recs of non vidya music that is similar to the works of Uematsu?
i'm a big fan of the OSTs, but even more so i love distant worlds and TPR's melancholic renditions.
pic related, best game/ost
depends on the game
in general, film soundtracks, romantic era classical, dark ambient and prog rock are the big ones
ffix in particular has some renaissance-inspired and spanish guitar sounds in between the typical fantasy fare

not sure why nothing can draw me in like FF soundtracks.
maybe my nostalgia runs too deep, and i'll be stuck listening to ff6-10 music renditions for the rest of my life on repeat.
Some dungeon synth might scratch your itch

The intro to this latest album is a bit more on the ambient end but I've talked to multiple people who feel the album in general has a decent ff6-ish vibe

thanks for the rec anon, listening and it's very promising so far.

The entire genre is populated by great material reminiscent of games and other nostalgic things. Some has a more 8 bit flare, others are more orchestral and cinematic, some is dark and murky and feels like a black metal intro or something. Lots to explore, if you're interested
Bumping for interest

Oh I use "Dungeon Synth" as a catch all for this stuff. Here's another favorite that has a bit of a different feel but still captures some kind of nostalgic feeling, perhaps more akin to reading fantasy novels:
