What do you believe is the worst element in the genre you represent?

I feel like my stuff probably fits best in shoegaze, so I'll say the worst element by far is the reliance on aesthetic to carry the material, and the genre-bandwagoners. It all just comes off feeling so unauthentic and it's a trudge to get through all the crap to find that spark of originality.
Though desu I think most music nowadays "tries" to sound a certain way instead of simply creating, so there's that. There's convergent and divergent intelligences, and too much of the world has become convergent. People who want to piggyback off of others' ideas and try to make something similar to something else, because they like that thing, or because they think it'll be something others like. And I'd rather people made things because they fall in love with the idea and just labor to bring it to life. It's why I hate most projects on here where people are pushing out tons of material, an EP every month or so - you can really hear when someone doesn't love the music.
>>73229967
There are people who will love this, but I'm unfortunately not one of them. The prog-jazz fusion is interesting for sure, but it feels too rigid and robotic at times for me and I just think I'm not compatible with the style...feel that way about a lot of prog though. Too mathematical. You're a talented instrumentalist though, and songs like We Had Many Fights Along The Way almost hooked me. Really unique stuff.
>>73228536
Listened to both tracks. I love your voice and the lyrics are solid, wish that the instruments were a shade louder but it works overall. One of those things I don't think I could listen to too much of though since it's pretty lacking in dynamics. Love the ennui though, this is cool. Are you planning on mostly doing single tracks for a while or an album eventually?

The thing I think the worst is about heavy blues rock is that while certain people tend to 'get' it instinctively and go with the feel and the groove, there's other people who - also instinctively - seem to reject groove and flow, which is the key imo to this genre.
Interestingly enough, the second group seem to write guitar music off as 'dad rock' the most.

Hope you can dig it. Tbh I don't listen to a ton of shoegaze, I'm mostly going off what other people said and I've gotten a couple comparisons to each of the bands I listed.
Tbh I drew more from Armor For Sleep's album "What To Do When You're Dead" and Elliott Smith's S/T, and a ton of books and movies, but no one hears that at all after I mutilated the recordings

agreed I do think it's too similar. that was a song I wrote a few years back when I was in a mental hospital about an ex-girlfriend.
