It's pretty interesting, their music contains a lot of religious references and spiritual themes but I've never been able to tell if it's celebrating or criticizing it.

The entire concept of Swans is the exhibition of the unconscious, so it's not like Gira would have any stance on this either. It's like he said when he was asked about what 'The Seer' was supposed to mean, it's not like he'd have any idea or any care to over analyze it.
He did say in I believe a p4k interview (or something) a few years ago that he had been going to a church, though this is obviously modern day Gira and not something that would necessarily be representative of the stuff from Swans' original incarnation, and I also have no clue what he's doing now. But still it's pretty apparent that even with modern Swans' approach the music comes from a very spiritually inspired place.
