Diseño Corbusier is the avant-garde electronics duo of Javier G. Marín and Ani Zinc, formed in Granada, Spain 1981. Like Sheffield’s relation to London during the punk explosion in the UK, Granada developed an experimental music scene 400 kilometers south of Madrid. As a child, there were no records in Ani’s house, so she grew up listening to the radio and was hypnotized after hearing ‘Remember Love’, by Yoko Ono. While attending university in Granada she responded to an ad in a music magazine by Javier, “If you’re into bands like Cabaret Voltaire or Flying Lizards, call me”. "Pérfido encanto" is Diseño Corbusier's first contribution to a European-wide scene where electronic instruments rose up against the media domination of guitars. An exceptional work of undulating sound manipulation, vocal experimentation and minimal electronic rhythms.

What are some books, articles, essays about music theory? I'm struggling with understanding music. I can't see it nor touch it. It seems too abstract. I can only associate the sounds with emotions or with pieces from other artforms, but I can't assess an album on it's own. Yes, I have to check the archive, but I also want to talk with you people.

With “El alma de la estrella” the duo took a step ahead. They renovated some electronic equipment and signed a distribution deal between their own label, Auxilio de Cientos, and one of the most prosperous Spanish independents of the 80s, Nuevos Medios, who were working with labels such as Factory at the time. Marín had been advised: if the rhythm can’t be danced to the records won’t sell. It was 1986 and he was constantly listening to DAF. ‘Golpe de amistad’ came up as the most international track of a brilliant, expressionist and charmingly domestic repertoire. More confident than ever, Ani Zinc manipulated reality as if it were plasticine. “El alma de la estrella” gathered all her obsessions. On ‘Chiquillo’ she imitated the angry women’s voices which filled the streets of the poor neighbourhood where she had grown up. ‘Ritmo 21’ can’t hide her admiration for Yoko Ono’s vocal register and the records by French female singers that her sister used to bring her from Paris. ‘El club del ruido’ came about as a fragmented document of an interview they did on the radio show of the same name. They used everything. Marín took upon creating rhythm structures with which to organize them. This time he replaced an archaic Korg synthesizer with a powerful Roland SH101, and the tiny drum machine Boss DR-55 with a German-built one that used real percussion sounds: the MFB-512.

He came to my college for a week long residency. He's an academic, been working at Harvard, and UNC for several years, so he came to my University to give some lectures on sampling, the music industry, producing, and hip-hop. He even gave a free concert at the end of the week.

Anyways, my friend was on the board that arranged the whole residency. I was going to meet up with him one afternoon, and he told me to meet him at this restaurant closeby. When I got there, it was just my friend, 9th Wonder, and two of his engineers/producers. I sat down and had a meal and conversation with them, and talked about different issues in music, certain artists I enjoyed, and hip-hop. It was a great experience. And I got to go to several of his lectures and the concert too.

JOB's musical journey started as students at the famed Booker T Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. United by a shared love of soul music and sweet harmonies, singers James Davis, Ollie Carbin, and singer-songwriter & musician Billy Bruner began to jam together and eventually formed their own band, J.O.B, upon graduation in 1977, setting to work building a reputation by playing local parties, venues and fashion shows. Very quickly the word of mouth on J.O.B became so strong that they were offered a house band gig at North Tulsa's most popular after hours spot, The Point After. During their tenure at the famed late night spot many bigger acts came to see J.O.B when in town. Tulsa's own Gap Band, Chaka Khan, and Bootsy's Rubber band all paying homage to the trio. It's extremely rare to find good quality recordings from local clubs of this era so we were delighted when this ¼ tape turned up in Billy's archive, so sit back and transport yourself back to Saturday evening, 20 August 1977.

I am looking for an experimental Hip Hop EP but I very vaguely remember the details.

It was an EP labeled as experimental hip hop from around 2011 I think.

I think it was French, although it had nonsense lyrics not actually in French, the voices were quite heavily distorted to sound like they were vibrating slightly. I remember part of the lyrics sounding something like 'I dont want see that trail' and that kind of morphed into the singer just spouting nonsense like 'seebados'.

The music was thick and syrupy and quite bassy. It wasn't really beat driven and sounded like thick flowing liquid.

The cover was a painting in a renaissance style I think. Someone eating at a banquet?

That really isnt much to go on but it was so distinctive that someone might remember it from this.
