The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

Gj Thomas. Overall: 4.17
>Galaxie 500 - On Fire
Actually really enjoyed this, despite it not hitting the 4/5 mark. The first track was great too, a lot it felt very ethereal. The high pitched vocals and guitars were great. I guess it wasn't quite a 4/5 because it wasn't extremely memorable, and besides the first track nothing would be something I'd come back to soon. I was sooo excited to hear the Ceremony cover (Xiu Xiu's cover of the same song is probably my top 5 favorite songs of all time), but then realized it was a bonus track.
3.5/5
>Les Rallizes dénudés - Double Heads: Legendary Live Yaneura Shibuya, Tokyo 1980-1981
I could listen to those sharp, drowning-in-reverb guitars all day long. I could listen to those weird, dissonant, and ghostly vocals all day long. Simply, I could listen to these shows all day long. This was so hypnotic, so encapsulating, so psychedelic. I fucking LOVE how raw it is, but also how at times, how dreamy it is. I swam in it the entire time. Best tracks: 1.3, 2.1, 4.1
4.5/5

>Tom Ze - Todos os olhos

Uhhhhhhh this started off quite cool, it has a nice MPB vibe going on. My thoughts are very similar to trip up's, The general vibes are nice and some songs are very good, but some songs just fall too flat and the quirky thing tripup was talking about can get slightly annoying.

Also, I fucking hate the 2-step captcha bullshit, makes my wanna buy a fucking 4chan pass, but I'm not that much of a degenerate.

>>
>>73215441
honestly "babylon" got me kind of excited for the rest of the album, it's a genuinely good song, but then a lot of tropes started seeping in, the songwriting bored me and the guitar work wasn't for me. cheesy choral stuff too - it all just rubbed me the wrong way. the final nail in the coffin was Infinity, that was just miserable.

it boils down to this album having a lot of things i just don't like, i don't think it's a Bad Album

Tried the following earlier to venture more into the /mu/core chart, though I'm mostly re-listening to others at the moment and listening through discographies, still;
>Candy Claws - Ceres & Calypso In The Deep Time. This album was pretty good, loved the layers of instrumentation and the lush, tropical feel the album had. Particularly liked the more orchestral tracks though didn't really notice much of the lyrics.
>Squirm Orchestra - Do Little Say Nothing. Seldom do I venture into the obscure as I do not see myself as prepared for such, though this is a practically unknown album I discovered just because I liked the word "squirm". It is one of the oddest albums I've listened to and throws itself between electronic, chamber pop (sort of), orchestral instrumental and rock songs with xylophones and the like, I love this thing.
>Talk Talk - It's My Life & The Colour of Spring. I giggled when the title track of the former played and I recognized it immediately, vastly preferred the powerful percussion on the former and the more concise use of synths when compared to the Party's Over. The latter was great though a step back in my opinion.

How you guys doing?

Bonjour /daily/!

I almost finished the first two rows, this is very exciting so far!
Unfortunately the Fushitsusha album was not at all to my likings. As I got warned it is quite similiar in it's style to 77 Live, there's the guitar jamming and the noise elements and the sub-par recording quality. This album is a bit louder and has more extreme moments, but I couldn't enjoy that either, sorry

Then I heard the owl album and it really is just owl screeches??
Parts of it were just creepy, others were delivering a solid ambient atmosphere, but I really don't know how to rate this??

Additionally to the chart, I listened to the second borzoi-rec (Ben Frost - By The Throat) and I liked this alot, even more than the first one. A very dark atmospheric soundscape, and the noise bits didn't bother me at all here, they even added something to the whole sound. Thank you borzoi!

So, next up is the Fishmans mixtape and then the album.
After that I'll start with the individual picks!
>>
>>73216504
for individual picks, i recommend doing the following people first:
me
herb guy
thomas
terminus
flyingicewizard
darklands
borzoi

here's a few reviews of eh albums for ya'll

Dendö Marionette - Dendö Marionette (1981)
>Synth Punk
“Frozen Edge” is a rapid-fire, brain-friend explosion of synth-warp noises and drum machines. It’s awesome, in the most literal sense of the word. The rest is essentially the desolate aftermath, a tundra devoid of any interesting musical ideas—all inspiration apparently wasted on the opener.
>6/10

SUBS - We Haven’t Entered the 21st Century (2008)
>Noise Rock, Emo
Some noisy, raspy emo with a bit of a post-punk edge—propulsive rhythms and extremely angular guitar melodies—out of Beijing. They do some neat stuff here. The CD is mysteriously only available for over $40 on Amazon.
>5+/10

The Stars - Today EP (2001)
>Psychedelic Rock
A relatively chill, English-sung, psychedelic rock band, from Japan, comprised entirely of Japanese members—a curious phenomenon, apparently related to bands like Fushitsusha and Ghost. The music is pretty uninteresting though, starting with the opener, which spends the bulk of its 9+ minute runtime being boring and meandering as fuck. “Bavard” is also lame, but a bit more active. “Wind in Three Quarter” is kind of fun though.
>5+/10

Mainliner - Mellow Out (1996)
Oh yeah this is just like an uptempo LRD what the heck. It’s still nowhere near as engaging, so it’s fun to close in on the LRD secret sauce all “well now we know what it doesn’t sound like”-like. “Cockamamie” is useless, even as an intro. “Black Sky” starts with crazy drumming and ends in a flame of crazy guitar work. “M” is actually really groovy, and again erupts into crazy guitar playing. I enjoy the shifts and progression throughout “M” too.

And don’t get me wrong. It’s good, it’s just so similar to LRD that not making the comparisons would be doing the review a disservice. Though, ’96 is a little late to the LRD imitation game.
>6-/10
>>
>>73216550
>>73216504
this is pretty accurate
altho u can skip the 4 hours of LRD if yr still not into it by then lol
>>
>>73216550
Thank you! I will do some from them first then.
I planned on doing one from everyone first then the second one from everyone and then the third, so people don't have to wait so long until I listen to their choices, haha
>>
>>73216611
4 hours of that?:o
ohh, I'm definitely not ready for that yet
>>
and this one was a real puzzler

Idetemp - 1983… And She Told Me I Was Die (1978)
>Minimalism, Ambient
It’s one of those releases that just straight up gets genre tagged as “Experimental” on RYM, like what-ever, man. It’s basically primitive electronic music, at a time when was usually primitive voluntarily—two lengthy skeletal compositions (in three parts each), constructed using heavily processed guitar and bass.

I really dig the general aesthetic of the project, so I wanted to enjoy the music, but it was just so incredibly boring. Like Side A is maybe two or three notes between the bass and guitar for 20 minutes. It’s so boring that Side B seems positively enthralling, though each part there quickly overstays its welcome. I gather that’s the story for many listeners though. It would appear that the mystery and intrigue surrounding this release are the only things going for it, and have miraculously carried it well into the modern era. I can only imagine how many similar-sounding albums didn’t make it on to the internet and never will.

Maybe I’ll use it for studying background music some time though.
>4/10
>>
>>73216504
>Then I heard the owl album and it really is just owl screeches??

Yup, like I said before, everything can be music if you accept it as music B-)
But yes it's kinda hard to rate owl noises.

>the noise bits didn't bother me at all here, they even added something to the whole sound.
Great! It's definitely one of the better atmospheres I've heard in music and he really gets through with the cold harsh atmosphere. I think the noise makes it sound even colder. Have you ever been in a snow storm? The noise fits really well for getting that feeling through

I have another rec for you then that you could listen to after Yellow Swans if you want to: try Biosphere - Substrata

Bong-Ra - Old-Skool Armageddon (2004)
>Breakcore, Jungle
Side A, “Deathsucker Rave,” sounds as if my headphones simply can’t keep up with the torrential carpet bomb of beats. It’s life-gripping adrenaline. Side B, “Murder You,” juxtaposes cheery reggae melodies with dense, aptly ‘murderous,’ sputtering break beats. Get your thrills.

one more for the road. this one was so good

X Dream, Troy & Cortex - XTC EP (1993)
>Jungle, Hardcore, Breakbeat
First track is a fully assembled jungle track in some guy’s head, but all the synapses are misfiring and it plays out a glorious shamble. It’s one of those songs where you would never have imagined you’d love it until you heard it and then you’re like, holy shit I was born for this.

The rest brings the aesthetic together into more cohesive, killer, but no less brooding and experimental, jungle and breakbeat tunes. I was just floored by each. It’s definitely some of the best jungle I have ever heard, and I love its almost IDM levels of wonky experimentation, with none of the IDM pretension and all the jungle aggressiveness and edginess.
>8+/10

Would highly rec if you haven't already heard this and you're looking for some really experimental, but hard-hitting jungle and breakbeat

jokes, here's another review. I enjoyed writing this, but it probably reads like shit. last one tho I promise

Perth Drug Legend - Clubbers Guide to Craigie (2015)
>Outsider House, Industrial Techno, …Acid Techno?
Hard and heavy dance music with a dark, vaguely psychedelic energy built into its martial throb. And this EP demonstrates, if anything, a complete mastery of colorful textures: the vulcanized rubber bass, the crunch of the drums, the lo-fi synth miasma. And that’s not to mention the songwriting—“Hillend Hyper Squad” and “Tweet Tweet Mill Street Fleet” are entrancing. The other two tracks are noticeably weaker though.

===theSound vs Mark And===

>Coil - Black Antlers
>Electronic Post-Industrial

If you took the sentence, "There's something wrong," and put it into music-- this would be the result.

I prefer a symphonic arrangement for All the Pretty little Horses, by Andrew Boyson Jr. . A very simple composition, but an effective build, and having the performers sing is the best touch. (Lots of pressure when you're playing the glockenspiel.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7xlopKG0aE

>Rhye - Woman
>Dream Pop

Very clean chamber pop/R&B sung by a... guy? Yeah, there was some discussion related to the androgynous singer of this album when it was released. I'm all for falsettos, but this was just ok.

Vocalist kinda reminds me of a more effeminate version of Two Door Cinema Club, actually.

6/10

===Breadman vs blapp===

>Jacula - In Caude Semper Stat Veneum
>Dark Ambient, Black Metal

Expected metal and got dungeon music

The Church organ is pretty awful, and it's all a bit tainted by its old production and Halloween aesthetic.

There's also a hubbub about the authenticity of it, being recorded in 1969 and released in 2001... though all evidence seems to point to the contrary, and the band fabricated this backstory.

The last comment on this blog points out the holes in the story here, though I don't know it's veracity:

http://www.psychedelicbabymag.com/2011/09/jacula-interview-with-antonio.html

Artistic integrity aside, this is mostly boring and pastiche, even for dark ritual music.

4/10

>The Knife - Shaking the Habitual
>Artsy Electronic Punkish House

I remember not liking Deep Cuts a few months ago, but I dig this. The first vocals I hear are really hard to describe, but fit well behind the primitive and frenzied electronic arrangment on A Tooth for An Eye. They almost sound like EBM at points, but mostly Asian culture.

They do sacrifice muscality for unconventionality at the end of the album, for a final, definitive identity.

Fav track: A Cherry On Top

====trip up vs ricebeansandeggs====

>Prince of Denmark - 8
>Minimal Techno

Wasn't really into this at first, but if you let yourself settle into it following the first 3-4 tracks, it's a nice ride. Has also got to be the smoothest techno album I've ever heard, which is saying something when it's 3 hours long with no real hiccups. But that just goes to show that this album doesn't do anything really amazing within it besides have a lot to it.

I also wish there was some actual memorable moment from this album that I can recall, but there really isn't. The last third of the album sounds like it should be the ACTUAL album, starting from Ambient 004 to Untitled-- everything before that is easy to swallow, but too clean for its own good. I wonder what people's opinions on this would be if Prince of Denmark has decided to use only a portion of this compilation as an LP.

Still, it's something to lock yourself away in for an amount of time, and return refreshed. And it makes me want to listen to The Field again.

7/10

>Akiko Yano - Tadaima
>Art Pop + Ryuichi Sakamoto synths, Techno Kayo

Probably the first full J-pop album I've really enjoyed.

A lot of fun and controlled eccentricity, with the lovely production I've come to expect from Japan. Yano's voice never passes into an irritating tone that some Japanese vocalists do, giving it the right amount of genuinity. It works even better during her solo piano playing.

I was a bit torn on giving this an 8 or a 7, at first. But after asking for song reccs to break the tie, and hearing Sakamoto's fantastic synth work, I just had to give this album a second listen... and that's what pushed it above. Yano really gives his work a push above, along with the Yellow Magic Orchestra-- it's a very tightly knit pop album, released before the likes of other artists like Kate Bush.

Simon and Garfunkel - Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme (1966)
>folk pop, folk rock

Even wimpier and worse at rock than Sounds of Silence, but at least the folk is generally on point. These guys were so damn good when they were low-key and contemplative, which makes tracks like "Scarborough Fair / Canticle" and "Homeward Bound" work so damn well, but the more upbeat tracks sound so /wrong/, and some of the folk tracks don't really hit that hard either. "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)" and "The Dangling Conversation" are both blatantly awful, and the rest is neither here nor there. Pretty weak, but I guess they get even better from here!

OutKast - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik (1994)
>southern hip hop

A very solid start to one of the most consistent hip hop groups ever. The album itself is very consistent as well, save for the couple of unnecessary interludes. Production is this album's strongest suit. A couple of dated g-funk influenced beats kinda kill the vibe, but these beats are mostly few and far between, the album instead preferring to take on a super hard-hitting, boom bap influenced sound that's still distinctly southern-fried. "Ain't No Thang" is a big highlight, the drums are absolutely killer but it's still got that southern atmosphere. The rapping is solid, but Big Boi and Andre definitely haven't yet developed their personalities and they seem a bit faceless. Now that I've listened to OutKast's first four, I honestly couldn't tell you which one I like the most, they were so damn consistent.

3.0-

King Sunny Adé and His African Beats - Juju Music (1982)
>jùjú

It's got some gross, ultra-slick '80s "world music" vibes, which bring down an otherwise really great album. Adé's style is really blunt and minimalistic, slide guitar over synthesizers, drum machines, and badass percussion. It's a style that can get old, but there's a lot of charisma and passion here.

Short thoughts after first listens, in no order:
Spiderland: delightfully haunted, really dense and sparse at the same time. I can't wait to listen to this 20 more times.
Money Store: fuck yes, if this is what people are talking about, I get it. Awesome hooks, fun attitude, very cool mix of styles.
Loveless: like a blanket heavier than I wanted, feels like I'm lost/drowning in it. needs a 2nd listen. Last track sounds like a precursor to many watered down imitator acts from old Buffy episodes.
Violent Femmes: half these are familiar from radio, other half didn't reveal much more. Fun enough, for knucklehead sexualfrustration altfolk
Stratosphere: needs 2nd listen. First listen was spent trying to decide if it was like modest mouse
Entertainment: A n g u l a r but better than Pink Flag

====Smug vs lamb=====

>Splitbreed - Mile High Club Part 1
>Trap, Rap, Dubstep, Drum & Bass, PopMonstercat-core

This album is a terrifying amalgamation of various popular genres, and excels in none. But I guess the trap tracks are something I know a few friends would enjoy. For me, I noticed a few select verses:

"Who would have thought that dubstep and rock would mean half naked women, glowsticks and shots"

"I'm miscellaneous spitter, facebook, instagram, twitter,
They talking Splitbreed is underground like I kick it with Splinter"

I think I would have really liked Hiveminds 8 years ago, cus its got a touch of chiptune over a crunk beat yo

Call Of the Youth has a nice vocalist (Ari) but the worst part about this album really is the verses I just want them to stop talking and to never touch a piano ever again

2/10

>Max Tundra - Parallax Error Beheads You
>Glitch+Synth Pop

Glad that Tundra embraced a poppier sound in this album, it works for him. Was also unsurprised when I saw ricebeansandegg likes it a lot. I don't like Tundra's singing too much, in that it's forced and obviously out of his normal range.

Still, much better in comparison to the other album.

Steve Roach - Structures from Silence
>Space Ambient

I’ve seen this album cover posted quite a few times but avoided it because the cover looked like a cheesy 80’s album. Turns out it IS a cheesy 80’s album lol. Shit sounds more dated than my grandma.
The three songs here come across as very amateur and are stagnant both musically and emotionally.
The bad side of minimalism - essentially one minute of composed sound artificially elongated with no meaningful purpose or effect created. Someone desperately wishes they were Eno.

Jangle and Rice both rocket straight to the pantheon of Security

Gun Club: I was initially disappointed that this wasn't an overtly voodoo record but that showed itself eventually, and the sinister edge really moved this from passable punk rock to something special.
Residents: i've liked the residents for a long time, not sure why I never got around to this one, but it absolutely did not disappoint. Nice to see them stretch out to longer songs, and revisit motifs. If it's spork, it's worthwhile spork.

>sky - final day
some really pretty textures that barely change over the 97 minute runtime. the biggest offender is the nearly hour-long track "gravity" that sits on the same remarkably pretty undulation for its full duration; however, its impossible to dislike this because of its inevitable beauty.
>keith row and john tilbury - duos for doris
it's a surprisingly engaging, suspenseful, and harrowing EAI record - i actually quite prefer the latter songs over the opener because i feel the atmosphere becomes even more tangible as the entire thing progresses. i'll probably never listen to it again, but it was truly rewarding.

and with that, i actually complete a chart for the first time since i've been here

Hey I'm currently on the hunt for a Indie Christian Folk album somebody recommended to me on here a few months ago. It was a really soft upbeat folk album and I really really enjoyed it but for the life of me I can't remember anything about it except the album cover having a yellow background or something. You'd really put my mind at ease if you could help me find me this, thanks!

Listened to a few albums that I had listened to and kind of knew about previously:

This Heat - s/t
>experimental, post-punk (?)

I prefer Deceit a lot more, but the self-titled album stands out, even if I wasn't much of a fan of some of the songs.

Favorite tracks: Horizontal Hold, Not Waving, 24 Track Loop
Overall: 7.5/10

The Field Mice - Snowball
>twee pop, jangle pop/rock

It's a fun album. I could see it in the Breakfast Club or something.

Favorite tracks: You're Kidding Aren't You, Couldn't Feel Safer, This Love Is Not Wrong
Overall: 8.0/10

Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans
>folky (kind of like you're on a farm)

Not a big fan of Suffy, but I think Carrie & Lowell, my favorite of his, is excellent. I think I saw people compare C&L to Seven Swans in terms of production, so I downloaded SS maybe two years ago. It's alright. None of the songs except maybe for Seven Swans caught my attention. It was pretty alright, nothing special.

Favorite tracks: Seven Swans, Abraham
Overall: 6.7/10

Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City (2013)
>indie pop

Such a more mature effort than anything they had done prior, albeit not without its own problems. The band's more upbeat style still isn't done all too well here, the appeal of songs like "Diane Young", "Finger Back", and "Ya Hey" is completely lost on me. They're obviously a bit intentionally goofy, but it's really off-putting and kind of irritating, especially since the slower, more deliberate tracks are great. I've known about my love for "Step" for a while, it's a great track with a great vocal performance and a wonderfully pretty harpsichord melody. "Unbelievers" has a phenomenal chorus, and is honestly just a really phenomenal song overall, and "Hannah Hunt"'s climax is beautiful. Tracks like these are done incredibly well, but they leave me wanting more especially considering how much I'm not a fan of the band's other major style. They've got a masterpiece in them.

Various Artists - Caribbean Folk Music, Vol. 1 (1960)
>caribbean folk music

A really beautiful compilation of some generally unheard music. Before this, my caribbean music diet consisted exclusively of Exuma and Frantz Casseus, but this has opened me up to a whole new world of heavily percussive, group based music that's really rhythmically intense while still maintaining a really fun, carefree attitude. The Western influences are also really well implemented, there are some blues tracks here and there that fit incredibly well. I'm really pleasantly surprised by this, there are some dud tracks but as a whole it's a really great, cohesive compilation.

>Quartet
honestly i enjoyed it, really. the first 30 minutes were tough. i tried focusing on the vibrations, and i like the sparsity of their playing, but it was just alright. but when the drones started kicking in in the second track, it was so great. and the last track is just very minimalistic improv. i could honestly see this growing on me soon.

Lil Yachty - Teenage Emotions (2017)
>pop rap, trap rap

It's so close to being ultra shitty in a "so bad, it's good" kind of way, because Yachty's delivery and his lyrics are utterly hilarious. "Blow that dick like a cello" is the best line of the year so far, no doubt. While it is endlessly quotable, it's just so goddamned /boring/ otherwise. The beats are so uninspired and lame; Yachty's rapping is shit, frankly; and it's far too long. The poppier tracks are okay, because Yachty's charisma and sense of humor carries a pop song better than a rap song. I love Yachty's personality and positivity, but god, this album blows.

0.5

Jay Som - Everybody Works (2017)
>indie rock, dream pop

Some impressive melodic work, and Jay Som's voice is divine, but the sound is too safe and too standard. The production is great, especially impressive since it was entirely produced by Jay Som, but the songwriting, save for some choice melodies, leaves a lot to be desired. It's either poppy rock (which is definitely the weakest link) or hazy dream pop. The dream pop is done quite well, but once again, it feels very safe, like I've heard it a thousand times before. It's a pleasant, easy listen, but therein lies its downfall.

Late night bump, prepare for some awful reviews.

Something Else might be the worst Kinks album I've heard so far but it's still really really solid. Definitely deserve their reputation imo, dudes were ridiculously consistent.

I've been underestimating both Yes and Badu, both of them have grown on me since I've explored their big albums.

Deja Vu was disappointing but had a few great songs, especially "Almost Cut My Hair" and "Helpless". Was hoping for more out of such a supergroup but it wasn't as bad as others have made it seem.

Burzum was okay, not nearly as good as Filosofem though. Pretty much what I've come to expect from black metal so far. The ambient piece was a nice touch too, I like that he does that.

Above The Law is prime early 90s g-funk, definitely worth a listen if you like Dre as a producer. Some really tight funky beats but a few duds. Cold 187um is also a fantastic MC, especially for the time.

Donald Byrd was great on side 1 and departs into shitty smooth "funk" jazz on the later half. Bland covers and uninspired commercial jazz keep this from being a great album but there's nice moments.

I think part of why I loved that so much is because I really dug For Emma when I was first getting into folk. So that's probably a factor, it felt like a nice change for an artist I had already connected with.

I also think /daily/ is super wrapped up in albums that are groundbreaking and influential and that album isn't game changing. So pair that with the fact that it's super popular and that leads to an automatic "it isn't really that good" pan from half this general. I'm probably just as bad with my biases though idk, maybe it doesn't deserve a 4.5 but I'm sticking with it

>Bjork - Debut
Starts out very promising but kinda drops off after the first 3 tracks. The main problem with this album as that Bjork's voice is given too much emphasis, and everything else, production and songwriting wise, is pushed to the back. She has a great voice, but it can't carry an album. Other than that, this is a mix of very good pop tracks and others that fall flat. 3/5

>Blur - Blur
An album of generic alt rock from the 90s, bland and safe in every way. There are fucking hundreds of albums just like this, all indistinguishable from the other. This is the kind of album I despise. 1.5/5

>Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver
This is another album that half of me loves and the other half doesn't care for. The songwriting here is fantastic, with gentle melodies and a variety of instruments that are incorporated well into the songs. I love the production on this album, very warm but at the same time clear and concise. But at the same time, Bon Iver, Bon Iver is so often forgettable. The songs just didn't have enough unique ideas besides "nice melodies with a buncha different instruments" to make it memorable. Still, it's a good, pleasant listen. 3/5

I'm not the biggest fan of hip hop, especially old school stuff. I liked the eclectic sampling and some of the weird, sometimes noisy production. More Mu-core

>NWA - Straight Outta Compton
This was a fun listen. I liked it but I wont lie the old production definitely got to me on a few tracks. Not enough to make me hate it but it's not something I see myself coming back to in full.
7/10
>Fleet Foxes - S/T
I can not say I disliked this. I enjoyed it a lot, but it never really grabbed me at any point. I liked what was happening but it never tried to engage that much deeper. Still enjoy it though.
6.7-7/10
>Fishmans - Long Season
Didn't even know this was Mu-core desu. Anyways, I thought this was very good. It was instantly likable with it's extremely melodic and continual sound and it gets me hooked from the first song each time I put it on.
8/10
>Devo - Q:Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
Fucking fantastic. Witty lyrics, fantastic post punk playing, just generally an amzing album.
8.1/10
>The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2
I listened to the first few songs of this album a couple months ago when I first started going on Mu and was like, "This is okay." Now with more general music experience and attention span I was listening intently from the first song. There wasn't a point where I didn't want to hear what happened next and loved it the whole way through.

Liked this more than I thought I would. Can definitely see this growing on me more the more I listen to it.

I kind of agree with this. /daily/ sometimes hates music for being conventional.

Also, I like For Emma and select songs from s/t, but I think the arrangements and production on a lot of the tracks flopped on that album. Like saxophone thrown haphazardly over banjo and booming drums, like on "Minnesota, WI", which hurts my ears. Not even talking about "Beth/Rest", which I think had the best understanding of production
