Been looking at the Alvarez AP70 for about a month waiting for them to restock (lefty). Checked Craigslist today and saw a guy had posted 2 martins, an LX1E and a 000x1ae.
The Alvarez is pretty much what I'm looking for and what I'm leaning towards (~350USD) but I'm sorta hoping one of yous know enough to recommend one of the Martins instead (250 & 300 respectively)

HELP IM LOSING MY GOD DAMN MIND HERE

how do i fix interference on my usb audio interface?

im pretty sure there are 2 sources of interference:

on the one hand theres this low humming that comes from the guitar, goes away if i touch both the guitar and the interface knobs.

then there are all kinds of crazy noises that surely come from the usb connection, as some of them are perfectly synced with usage of the mouse or keyboard.

Also important, i know my electrical instalation does not have a ground.

Is there any cable that can save me or should i move?

why they also have a shit plastic nut on new guitars?
whats the price difference between a good nut and a bad one
its 2 months in and i already have fret buzz
>>
>>73206501
i bought yamaha c40 like a week ago and it absolutely suck for strumming. but classical guitars aren't for strumming i guess.
i would say that what you pay matters alot when it comes to classical guitars. that ramirez doesn't look bad
>>
>>73206939
A good nut should let the strings pass through it easily, this helps the string return to pitch after being bent.
>>
>>73206962
it's marketed as a parlor, but in posts I've seen people say it's probably just as close to a 00 learner sized as a classic parlor. classical headstock, but steel strings and standard neck

What is the connection between jazz and blues musically? They seem inherently different but people often say that jazz overlaps blues, and there is a genre called "Jazz blues", and jazz songs are sometimes made in 12 bar blues format

Can I start learning jazz if I have a good base in blues ?

from left to right:
condor clp2s. pups are super distortion and 59, also sanded the neck heel
condor rx30 with some overwound pickups, like heavier texas specials, and a gfs tremolo system (crap)
condor ctx50 with some gfs pickups installed by the previous owner. not using it cause the stock saddles keep cutting the strings
amp is an alien mars, fitd with el34, working fine but master knobs are off placed
hidden in there between the guitars and the amp is an ol zoom g1x that i use for modulations and effex when playing live

So jazz borrows a few key concepts from blues. Probably the most familiar to you as someone with a background in blues is the idea of using chromatic "passing" tones to create harmonic melodic interest, i.e. the use of the tritone in the popular "blues scale", or the addition of a natural 6th in the minor pentatonic.

"Jazz blues" is typically a 12-bar format that utilizes jazz harmonic devices like extended chord voicings, chord substitutions, etc.

As far as who to listen to: Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, Tal Farlow, Joe Pass, Django Reinhardt, and Pat Methany are all significant figures in the evolution of jazz guitar.
>>
>>73210021
>>73209985
Don't buy a GIO. Spend more.
Trust me, GIOs are pieces of shit, the hardware is flimsy, and the neck too thin to resist the string tension properly. Unless you want to set up your guitar every two weeks, I advise against it.

>>73210219
>But why can't I break a 9/8 meter into eighteen sixteenth notes?
No idea where you're getting that, you can.
>Why is it compound?
"Since each beat is made up of three notes".

I don't think it's a very important lesson, I never respect the "classical" way of writing rhythm, I just do math and make the meter as long as the pattern I'm going to repeat with the drums and rhythm section.
It's all just math anyway, if you can do fractions in your head, you're good.

How do I find a good local luthier? I don't trust Guitar Center. My guitar has high action because it frets out otherwise, and the intonation is fucked. I have to take off the neck to adjust the truss rod, and the bridge is a Floyd Rose, so it's not the easiest guitar to work on.

How many times can I level jumbo frets before I need a re-fret? This guitar's a keeper and a player, so I know it'll need a re-fret eventually.

Mustang 90 or Duo Sonic HS?

The Duo Sonic makes more sense because the pickup configuration seems the most versatile, but a lot of the demos on YouTube make the Mustang 90 sound really good and I've never owned a guitar with P90s before.
>>
>>73213433
How about neither? How about you get a real Fender, like a Strat or a Tele? Why don't you get a real offset, like a Jazzmaster or Jaguar?

Also, P90s suck. Get a regular hot single coil or a low-output humbucker. Don't choose the worst of both worlds.

P-Rails if you put the Triple shot mounting rings.

Depends on a lot of things. I'd first make sure you have a good guitar with some nice pickups and I mean personally I wouldn't get a Fender Bassman because I think they're too big. I mean if you're playing gigs and stuff go for it but if you're using it for personal use I think there's better alternative by fender.

Hello Progheads. How do I get good with "rhythm"? I want to be able to understand time signatures, poly-meters, poly-rhythms. Don't stay like an autist staring at the floor take look at the other guys to see if they are trying to get your attention or communicate something, particularly the drummer.

If its your first time playing go easy on the theatrics, dont try to do a power slide and jump and play the guitar with your cock, youll fall on your ass unplug the guitar, set the place on fire and be taken to the ER with a sign that says "im a retard" in front of a live audience, trust me bro i know

Hey /gg/ quick question, this didn't happen on my previous computer, which had a worse processor and RAM. But, I noticed some input lag in my DAW, so I did what any rational human being would do and lowered the buffer size to 16. I was still getting 2.0 latency which is not at all optimal for me. So I increased the sampling rate to 9600 which brought my latency to 1.4 milliseconds which im very happy with. HOWEVER, when ever I record or press play i'll get nothing but a high pitched ringing 3 times out of 5. If i keep spamming play, or record it'll actually begin to record or play.

Anyone know what the problem is? RAM is clocked at 2400mhz 16 gbs, and I have a ryzen 5 1600. So i'm doubting it's my hardware, drivers are also all up to date. Any help would be appreciated.

You can't really divide 9/8 in two, unless you're playing a half note and a sixteenth note, which is much more complex than three dotted quarter notes.

How do these things work? Won't the high strings just float above the saddles when you dive?
>>
Can someone give me some tips and link or tell me where to begin learning guitar theory? I don't know shit about theory but i can play solidly
>>
Help me out guys, when I pick I feel like either the string is too loose or the pick is getting caught and I can't get a tight chug sound

I currently use Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm picks (but was thinking of switching to Jazz III's?) and 10 to 52 gauge strings in drop c# (thinking of going 11 to 56?)

What would be more useful switching strings or picks or both?

The picks I am using seem fine with 10 gauge strings in E standard so I think it might just be the strings needing a change...
>>
>>73218277
Buy the guitar grimoire. It's very comprehensive.
>>
>>73218329
Speaking from my own experience it's probably the pick. I use a 2 mm pick now and that's what I'm most comfortable with. Jazz IIIs and their XL equivalent are solid options too, but I still got that floppy feeling from them. However, I've never tried the stiffo Jazz IIIs, so those might work better for you.
>>
>>73218222
Aren't the floating part and saddles separate ?

I can chug without issues using some .75mm pick despite using mostly 2mm picks.
I mean you can just switch around and try a bunch, picks aren't expensive.
If you like having a regular sized pick I recommend the John Petrucci picks, they're really nice.

52 sounds a bit low for a C#, I'm on a 28.625" scale and I'm using a 54 for the low B.

>>73218434
Me neither, I'm only supposing.
That said if the saddles are high enough I don't think the strings would go off the saddles when diving.

In layman's terms, its a muted rhythm deadened by the fretting hand that is an actual pitch or fretted note. Listen to the verse and chorus licks in this and you'll get a feel for what I mean.

It'll sound completely different. The cardioid pattern points straight out the top of the mic, it'll be pointing at the floor and only picking up sound from the side which will make it muddy and kill the high frequencies. People record with the mic angled (off axis) sometimes to get less highs, but perpendicular like that will probably sound like ass.

My band (prog rock/experimental) has a song which has an extended 5/4 section, and for part of that section the rest of the band drops out and I play a riff unaccompanied for 16 bars before the drums come back in with the snare completely synchronized to the guitar. I initially struggled with the timing on that part since I had to rely on my "internal metronome" to keep a 5/4 rhythm and it was really obvious when the drums came in to tell if I screwed it up. So I started "speaking" in 5/4 during that part, repeating the phrase "I want a cheese sandwich" which placed the emphasis on "a" as the 3rd beat of the measure and the word "sandwich" as two eighth notes:

1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 and
I want a cheese sand wich

(Hopefully that formatted the way I wanted it.)

Maybe a similar exercise could work for you? Another useful tip is to be able to sing what you are playing, even if it is in an odd meter. Part of the reason songs like Rush's "Tom Sawyer" or "YYZ" do so well with mainstream audiences is that they have very singable, catchy, groove-y riffs.

Started learning bass a week ago, bought a used Harley Benton MM-84A (active pickups), for 145€. I hope I didn't fuck up. I'm training on a guitar amp until I can find a used bass amp. Some questions:

Should I avoid Fender Rumble amp or Crate?

Will I regret buying a 15W amp if I want to start jamming with a keyboard and small drums in some months?

Should I buy a strap and play the bass upright as recommended?

I have some trouble muting with the ring finger. Do you recommend moving the thumb around or even play with floating thumb? Should I just bear with it?

I think I will prefer plucking vs pick, but I know I should learn picking. How far should I take learning picking?

>it sounds like someone completely scooped the mids and cranked the bass even when I do adjusting
>even when I do adjusting
>when I do adjusting

don't you think I already accounted for that? Or are you incapable of reading complete sentences?

Is the ESP/LTD MH-1000NT Deluxe any good?
>>
>>73229461
he uses pedals in a very specific way to enhance the gain from his amp. he's not playing a clean channel into a DS1
>>
>>73229504
He used a HM-2 for a while.
>>
>>73229461
>>73229504
fuzz does not equal distortion
>>
>>73229503
yes a living room called electric lady studios' studio room
i know hes using a pedal because of volume
>>
>>73229533
source. i bet it was for like one song
>>
>>73229518
he stacks an overdrive and a fuzz with some eq pedals through a clean channel to get his lead tone

>>73229538
it's not just a fuzz....

amp distortion's hard to beat but these pedals sound pretty good
>>
>>73229560
yeah, so no distortion pedal. there's a difference between OD, distortion and fuzz boys.
>>
>>73229574
k

explain guthrie govan. he uses distortion pedals out the ass along with his amp distortion
>>
>>73229569
>distortion pedal from a company that makes one of the greatest high gain amps of all time
yeah i'd imagine it's pretty good if you can't afford a full mesa... if you've got $400 to drop on a pedal.
>>
>>73229600
again, to enhance tones or get a different sound. what is so hard about this concept for you to grasp? there's nothing wrong with pedals but they pale in comparison to gain from a decent amp. you do you man.
>>
80/20 or phosphor bronze?

He seemed pretty fond of it.
>>
>>73229617
they don't pale in comparison if you buy one that isn't a piece of shit

anyone who says this shit probably bought a ds-1 when they were 16 and never tried another distortion pedal in their life
>>
>>73229636
If it sounds good it sounds good. I just don't understand why youd spend $200+ on a pedal when you could get an amp to do it
>>
>>73229611
yeah they're not cheap
>>
>guitarists chimping out

figures.
>>
>>73229635
Seems like he had a lot more going on than just that box...

>"At the moment, the sound that I'm using a lot of the time is going through a Boss HM-2 Heavy Metal to a Boogie amplifier to a [MXR] DDL and then on into a regular Fender amplifier....I use a DDL on it...because I find it stops the fuzz box from from sounding like a fuzz box. It smoothes off the unpleasant, raw frequencies that you get from the fuzz box. Then you get a nice sort of sound.”

amps with distortion channels that actually sound good are $1000+, i already like the sound of the amp i have now, and the pedals i use with it sound good.
>>
>>73229702
To each their own
>>
>>73229702
dunno bout that, there's plenty of good amps with high gain channels out there for less than a grand. orange and mesa aren't the end all be alls
>>
>>73229770
i should rephrase that. amps with good cleans and distortion channels are usually $1000+

i'd be glad if someone can prove me wrong, but i've never found an amp less than $1000 that can do both well

Are you talking about the orange cr120 by any chance? I have the same amp, but in my opinion, the gain channel sounds pretty good. It does hard rock/classic metal, and stoner/sludge metal pretty well. If you want to get a more modern metal kind of sound, you will need to get a tubescreamer or eq pedal(Just as you would with the majority of amps, especially >>73214278). Just listen to this guy, he is the main reason why I bought this amp in the first place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbcTIVcl3a0

Also they can't afford getting better shit because their government jews away lots of money with taxes on every attempt they make of getting something that's actually good made outside.
Get a Carvin V3m.

Rolling back volume effectiveness is based on what pickups you have. Emgs stay dirty. My suhr aldrich humbucker has a similar output but cleans up greatly. Lower output Shawbucker cleans up even better.
>>
>>73230577
damn bro get a noise suppressor. sounds kind of thin to me but decent playing.
>>
>>73229418
To color the signal coming from the guitar. Not relying on it for the tone.

>>73229800
I got my jcm900 hi gain dr for 600. Original el34 tubing. Wanna hear the brutal gain. Take a look at some Morbid Angel. Wanna hear the cleans? Ask Blink 182. More people buy dsl and tsl amps but more pros use jcm for the reason they are surprisingly versatile. Get an 11 band eq and youre golden.
>>
>>73230706
Sure m8. Dont mean you bought it though. Or do you mean a virtual sim?
>>
>>73230596
>Emgs stay dirty.
Bullshit. I can go from clean to distorted by just adjusting the volume on my guitar, which has a set of emg 808s in it.
Their voicing however is kinda meh for clean tones.
>>
>>73230785
i didn't buy it, i jerked off a 60 year old man for it
>>
>>73230836
did you make him koom
>>
>>73230804
I have emg 81 and 85. And i meant when playing with max amp gain. They just seem to get muffled. With the other pickups i can still get some ringing and twang. Much more dynamic sound than the emgs
>>
>>73230719
>jcm900
Post disregarded
>>
>>73230852
yea, he did it all over your mom
>>
>>73230869
did wat? kume?
>>
>>73230859
I never run the gain at its fullest but when playing with the usual metal tone I still can get a clean tone without touching the amp.
That said I can't speak for the 81/85.
I think pot value also plays a little bit of role in there but I can't say for sure.
>>
>>73230867
H8 is cuz they anus. Funny how you never even tried one irl.
>>
>>73230899
Well i can say from experience that rolling down the volume 81s doesnt clean it up too good. But with lower gain settings it is certainly doable with many other pickups.
