Paul McCartney imo.

Geddy Lee is the most talented member in Rush for playing bass as well as he does on top of lead vocals and Moog pedals.

These

Also Flea. The slapping is cool and all, but when he plays normally, he really provides great structure for the song.

Chris Squire of Yes

Randy Bradbury of Pennywise

More tasteful bass arrangements imo. His basslines are unforgettable, but not as athletic as Geddy Lee or Les Claypool. Plus Paul's bass tone is my favorite out of all bass players (particularly on the songs that he plays a Rickenbacker)

Stanley Clarke. Funk and Jazz fusion require an amazing amount of technical ability
>>
>>73198626
It depends on the genre or style of music. A virtuoso heavy metal bass player would have a hard time playing latin rythms.

What the fuck, Jaco is the goddamned king. Fusion isn't even wacky, he's hardly fucking wacky.

You're just a pleb who got fed up with the fact that some people like weird music and you're too stupid to get it, so instead of saying "I don't like overly busy and amelodic music.", which is a valid position to hold, you just shit on anything at all jazzy. You're a stupid mong who can't into anything but nursery rhymes.

I have always enjoyed AFI's bass, not up there technically with Jaco, Clarke, Flea, Thin Lizzy, Entwistle and Giddy but definitely different and fun to listen to

A lot of great bassists haven't been mentioned.

A lot of mediocre bassists have.

As a bassist, I find it weird how much value people place on playing in the pocket - it's literally our job at least 90% of the time.
