I remember digging this, but I haven't listened in a while. A lot o the tunes on this one are far more melodic than on that self titled EP which isn't saying much.

Maybe you are right, I haven't listened to listened to either in a while, I just remember the first EP being full of flaccid muted guitar noise with barely any discernible pitch, and I remember the tracks on the album having a much less hollow sound. I'm relistening to the EP now and Blonde Redhead is definitely the exception in terms of accessibility. Also their EP isn't self titled so my bad on that as well.

iirc, the first two are from their first single, then it's the four off no new york, then the EP, then it's mix of live recordings and obscure tapes. it's honestly a pretty intense mix of fully formed avant-rock shit (particularly the first half) and near-formless noise noodling, both of which are pretty packed full of ideas. definitely recommend you revisit it.
