probably the best modern folk album period. Definatly lives up to its aclaim
>>73160529
Absolute masterpiece but calling it folk is a stretch
>>73160529
>anemic proto-numale queefs over badly tuned guitars recorded through a walkie talkie
>>73159645
That album is a masterpiece.
Iron & Wine - Shepherd's Dog is also perfect
what do you guys think of pic related? Do you think it will be influential in the future? No one can deny its pretty boundary pushing

I didn't like it
It had some great moments and is definitely unique, but overall it was pretty uninspired lyrically and musically
Also not folk

For Me, I like Old Ramon, if we're counting it as a Folk Record, but if we're up to that standard, then we have to consider Down Colorful Hill as a Folk Record. And I highly recommend that release along with all of Kozelek/RHP's works.
I realize the prompt is post-2000s but if you open this up to the 90s it could improve by about 400%
>>73160832
I Agree. It's not a folk record. It's alternative/post-indie. Saying it's post-indie is a stretch though.
>>73160833
I just realized this is pre 2000. my apologies
>>73160854
I honestly dont know what it is, there really isnt a genre that can describe it well
>>73160832
Really? I understand how you might not like it but I thought it was very inspired
>>73160854
What exactly is "post-indie?"
Alternative is as broad you can get but probably about right seeing as how genreless the album is
>>73160908
>post-indie
sounds like the Arcade Fire's upcoming album
>>73160874
idk, as far as structure and instrumentation go it's definitely very creative, I just found the lyrics to be a bit flat a lot of the time, and I can't think of a single melody that stands out. I kinda need at least one of those things to engage me to enjoy it. Like I said, it has its moments, but overall it just didn't leave an impression.
>>73160923
yuck
I don't think pic related gets anywhere near enough credit
>>73160785
definitely not folk but still an awesome album
>>73160984
I thought I Love Portugal, butch lullaby, god bless Ohio, I love you and Sarah Laurence had very stand out melodies, but I get what you're saying, it's a very story/sound centric album
>>73161045
Great pick, absolutely wonderful instrumentation, and Laura's voice is gorgeous. Shame her last two albums haven't been as good
>>73160674
and it's fantastic
>>73160785
Podcast Rock is a promising genre.
