I have a few records from that era. Kenny Rogers' "Kenny" album has several open breaks on it and DA Coe's "Mississippi Woman" on the Longhorn Jamboree album has a pretty awesome funk breakdown on the hook. The guy from the Burt Reynolds movies, Jerry Reed, he had some pretty funky songs that charted back then.
