If you had to sort the entirety of music into 3-6 categories, what would they be?
> Starting a radio station.
> Looking to create a few different playlists that radio members can add songs to for automated play.
> I want the songs to be matched somehow, so it's never Sun O)))) to Owl City or whatever - therefore categories.
> But don't want 50 different genres/styles for people to tag songs as.
> need ideas

4. The Beastie Boys
5. Other

Very nice, I'll be sure to tune in
>>73147277
two categories for pop?
I'm gonna piss a few people off lumping metal into inaccessible
>>73147277
also we can assume that (even though any kind of music can be added) most people aren't going to be adding classical to the auto-DJ. They can do their own show about it
1. Acoustic
2. Electric
3. World

Most of lists here are catering to /mu/ users which is less than 0.01% of the population. I would say rock/alternative, top 40 pop, older pop and classical rock (basically a 60s/70s/80s playlist), country, heavier rock and metal, and, last and least, hip hop

It is a new day
We are together, we are unified
And all for the cause
Because together we got power
Apart we got power
Today on this program you will hear gospel,
And rhythm and blues, and jazz
All those are just labels
We know that music is music

This isn't bad. It'd get wide at 8, but add 'electronic' and 'experimental' categories and that's pretty much everything.
I'm not even the second person in my radio station who browses /mu/ so we gotta go a little weirder

>metal and rock separate
memes :^)
>>73147483
forgot to add commentary. Since you're going for playlist flow, fuck genre and go for mood. A chill electronic song can go into a chill rock song no problem. Same with anything else.
The 'experimental' tag is for anything that's fucking out there and doesn't flow from anything normal regardless of feel.

just change it to 'ethnic'
