Sabbath Assembly was a project originally intended to perform hymns and spread gospel of a mid-20th century "cult" by the name of The Process Church of the Final Judgement. Originally rooted in dark folk and gospel style old-timieness, they've since evolved to a more doom metal sound. Genesis of Throbbing Gristle has contributed on a couple of their records.

I've only heard their early stuff since all the subsequent releases sounded too bland and run of the mill to me. The collection of demos, Eno Ot Derotser, is my favourite.

Listen to The Frozen Autumn.

They make some top-notch darkwave with male and female vocals.

Also great haircuts

Ekove Efrits is an Iranian black metal band that has been active since 2001. In 2010 he released Hypermnesia for free download via Canadian label Hypnotic Dirge. A departure from his usual depressive black metal work, the album has roots in darkwave and neoclassical. It served as a gateway to this project for me, and I hope it does the same for others.

I should change my writing style for these descriptions they feel really corny and shilly. Oh well.

Have any of you guys heard of WEEB? I haven't seen any discussion of them and I'm genuinely curious to see what people think of them.

what are some bands that usually have dark themes but sound upbeat or happy?
>>
>>73144902
Not really /dark/ but I was thinking 80s jangle pop bands like early REM, Felt, The Smiths, etc.

If you don't like that album, give Maximum Security a try. They don't have a consistent sound.

Minimal synth was a stripped down and simple style from the late 1970s to the early 1980s that was a thing before MIDI controllers were developed. Usually it was low budget recordings with cheap electronic equipment on 8-tracks and early cassettes of music that had a lot in common with Industrial styles and early dark wave.

Early Clan of Xymox on their 1st release was also very minimal synth.

Listen, I know the whole idea of the no wave movement ending was because The Ascension was so good, but can anyone agree that this is the best no wave? There's nothing out there that's better for dancing while hating yourself (give me more examples if you disagree. I can only think of EBM that's simultaneously /dark/ and dancey).
