ITT: essential poseurcore
>>
>inb4 pleb
Poseurcore doesn't mean bad. It means that these albums are albums that poseurs typically listen to and brag about listening to super experimental music whilst only knowing essentials

As this guy says >>73131645 it's not bad, it's that poseurs always claim 'it's soooooo experimental' and brag off about it as if it makes them special that they listen to it even though its pretty popular anyway and doesn't at all make them any different

>>73131730
First time I heard gumbo variations was on a Mexican radio station that play stuff like Eurodance, hi NRG, whatever fatboy slim plays, disco, and rock. Kind of took me by surprise

And I kind of bragged about that song for a while

(this is a good chart if you want "experimental" or "weird", which is not to imply "good" or "bad" just "different")

this. everyone calling these albums poser core is either really insecure about their taste or they just can't accept that music doesn't have to be pop music made for easy listening

it's impossible to dislike pop music, but why can't you faggots loosen up a little and listen to some interesting music for once in your life instead of spamming this board with non stop boring indie pop and alt rock?

Fortunately I listen more Neubauten than that album. It's pretty babby's first post industrial
>>
>>73132556
honestly if i ever met someone in real life that listened to anyone of these bands id shit myself its easy to say that someone on /mu/ is a poser but we live in a world where even nirvana is becoming some sort of forgotten "experimental" band
>>
>>73133130
This. I'd love to meet someone that likes that kind of stuff
>>
>>73131645
>brag ... whilst only knowing essentials
People who know far beyond the essentials still (usually) agree on the essentials. You can pretend that some more obscure Beefheart album was more essential, but then you'd be the poseur, because most of his output is only for completists. Same goes for most artists.

You could listen to every album from that decade and still go, "yeah, that Warhol banana album is probably the one that sticks out the most". Your opinion would be well-informed, but your conclusion is no different than someone who just went straight for the established classics and 'best of' lists (and saved themselves from listening to a bunch of crap). Both would appear as a poseur, because they like an album that was already called essential by enough taste-makers.

I guess that's the heart of it. People call others poseurs because they want to separate themselves from people who took a shortcut to their patrician/refined tastes.

Certain albums will stand out no matter what spin you put on the motives of the listeners. Is agreement a bad thing? In other contexts they call it the 'canon'.

>>73131835
So, anything people heard about from scaruffi? "Weird" music that few people have heard? Albums people pretend to like, even though you like it yourself?

There aren't any tastes that people won't criticize. If you say you love the Beatles and Bowie and Nirvana, you're a dadcore specialist. If you like obscure/bizarre/noise/art rock album, it's because you're trying your hardest to not sound like a Bowie/Beatles/Prince fan.

There was a time not long ago when the White Light White Heat albums of the world were considered the weird and unlistenable albums that people only pretended to like. But I doubt if many here think that way, after having discovered how far others have pushed their music into similar realms. Listen to the weird long enough and it becomes the normal.

(Sorry for the long post. It's an interesting topic.)
>>
>>73133130
>Coltrane, Residents, Beefheart, Sun Ra
these aren't that obscure. Granted, the average person you'll meet at a party probably hasn't heard them but they definitely have a following outside of /mu/ and some of those people even go outside every once in a while.

>>73132811

gfu, don't get down because some autist (literally, go back and read those threads, it was like fucking Schopenhauer had come back to life to haunt the internet) put it on a chart a year and a half ago to get at /daily/ and /rym/
>>73133130
I know right, who gives a fuck, you've (likely) never met anybody who posts here, what does it matter what kind of music they listen to or why.
I don't know about Nirvanna, but I would say that's true for bands like, say, Flaming Lips, did you know they released an album this year?
>>
>>73131614
Was at a festival last weekend and saw someone in a trout mask replica tee shirt, I told him it was a decent album and he said that he didn't even know it was an album and he only bought it cause he liked the picture

don't tell me what to think, or how to think it, or what I am because of what I think you fuck, who the fuck do you think you are you little punk, I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

>>73132556
how does it not imply it's at least not in some way good?
The ambition involved in trying to do something experimental strikes me as a very a useful quality for any artist.
I suppose they'd have to actually succeed at being unique
>>
>>73133313
I was shocked to find that not a single one of my younger sisters friends knew who nirvana are but the flaming lips are a much better example
