That's not Raury

I would have Kanye as second. He certainly has surpassed Dre as a musician (many have) but as a businessman (Beats headphones etc) and as a label head Dre is in a class of his own. We're talking about a man who was responsible for/involved with NWA, Tupac and the whole Death Row/Bad Boy era, Eminem, the whole G-Unit era and Kendrick Lamar.
>>
his comeback album was sheit
>>
>>73124686
True, but at the same time it was the (unofficial) soundtrack for a film which basically showed Hollywood that hoodkino films can perform at the box office.
>>
He's also a gay icon
>>
>>73124476
I recently listened to his first 2 studio albums.

Chronic is an undeniable classic.
But holy fuck 2001 was such a drastic drop in quality.

I think the most important figure should actually be a musician of some sort.
>>
>>73124560
give Raury time. He needs to shed his shitty audience who believes in vibrating crystals giving off energy.
>>
Kurt Cobain and Tupac are probably still the most important, culture-wise.
>>
>>73125122
Knowing how to play an instrument doesn't make you a musician. Making music makes you a musician.

>source is Suge Knight
>"I'm a bisexual because I like to get my cheekbones blown out. I like to get pounded in the butt."

Suge Knight is known for this kind of petty shit. Like when he did an interview and said if Eazy-E were to stand between his legs, he could be his penis.

Why is the guy trapped in m&m's basement so important?
Is he a medical doctor? Is he going to keep M&M from ending up like MJ and Prince?
>>
>>73125235
No
It makes you a twat, you aren't a musician unless you perform
Coaches aren't athletes
Directors aren't movie stars
>>
>>73125306
This is a really fundamental misunderstanding of not only the topic at hand but the topic you're trying to change it to. Also really really bad analogies, I hope you didn't take more than a few seconds to press Post.
>>
>>73125306
>coaches aren't athletes
Stop listening to Radiohead on repeat and watch some sports, kid.
>>
>>73125117
The first half of 2001 would be one of the GOAT hip hop albums of all time if it were a standalone project. The second half, in contrast, does not have a single good track (save for maybe Lets Get High, which is just a fun track and not really anything special. Literally the most top-heavy album in music history.
>>73125216
Dre has to get at least partial credit for Pac success, given that he was responsible for Pac's most commercially successful song (California Love)
>>73125122
He released three albums, one of which is an objective classic and another which many would consider to be a classic. He has produced dozens of the biggest Hip Hop/R&B hits in history. He was a key member of one of the most culturally and musically important rap groups in history. Boi stop.

Tupac isn't a definitive titan of American culture because of California Love

Would have to disagree.
No one has been more influential than Rappin' 4-Tay in the last century.

Biggie and numerous rappers and Shiite ones like Kanye wouldn't be here if dr see wasn't around.

nah it's daft punk
they've influenced pretty much all modern music
co-opted pop, hip-hop, alternative, and yes even kanye
>>
Involved in or responsible for:
Himself
NWA
Snoop Dogg
Tupac
Eminem
50 Cent
Kendrick

Yeah id say his legacy is pretty incredible
>>
>>73124487
Ye pretty much picked up Dre's dropped torch. its a tough call really, because Kanye really gained prominence when Dre became irrelevant (around 2005 or so)
>>
>>73124622
Beats are cool but Dre never changed the shoe game, though and both are as equally irrelivent. Dre had nothing to do with Bad Boy. Without MBDTF, no major label would have given GKMC the green light. Eminem is corny garbage.
