What was s/t Sabbath then?
"Paranoid" was not their first album, you poser. But it's the best.
this is the best post rock album of all time

Actually pic related is their best but paranoid was their most groundbreaking because they foreshadowed the whole metal movement for the first time, not only because of the fact that paranoid is the first classic "Heavy Metal" album but because it begins a trend of black sabbath showing influence in other subgenres of metal like doom metal (electric funeral) and vaguely thrash metal (paranoid the song).

Laughing Stock is much better
ITT: Newfags.
Black Sabbath didnt invent metal, nor were they metal. They were a rock band that was heavily influenced by blues music.
They didnt one day just create it, they, like every other band then were taking shit they liked from other bands and incorporating it into their own sound. One band tunes their guitars to a certain tuning, others hear it, like it, then do it. One drummer hears some big band drummer using double kicks, he adds it into his style...
Metal as a genre happened over time, anyone who believes one band just started it all is an uneducated, inexperienced retard.

0/10, try being more subtle next time.

Because they weren't trying to make "metal" music, working within a set culture and conventions, they were carving their own path as they went along

of course but surely you can admit that sabbath was one the biggest catalysts and any early metal band will say so
>>73086088
You bring up good points, but a lot of Black Sabbath songs are straight up doom metal. The song Black Sabbath sounds like Reverend Bizarre.

But the first post-rock album is Bark Psychosis - Hex by name, or Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden by sound
>Flying High Again

Guess who invented ambient.......one band you Moron.
>>73086088
They were the first band to play metal as we know it though. No one argues that they had influences (Led Zeppelin, Cream) but what separated Sabbath was really their subject matter. They were the first to incorporate occultic themes into heavier rock than had ever been done at that point. It's not like everyone just sat down and said, "This is metal I guess," afterward, but in time and by finding out who influenced later key metal bands, it's pretty undeniable that Black Sabbath was the first metal band

Master Of Reality is best Sabbath album

As much as Mezzanine was groundbreaking, and overall more artistic (for lack of a less gay word), the grooves in this shit, the integration between the collage factor and their OC, along with the fact that there's not a single weak moment, make this impossible to surpass, as I see it.

Of course metal didn't spring up out of nowhere, but Black Sabbath is the first band who can considered metal by today's standards. By saying Sabbath is the first metal band, nobody is trying to claim they invented it all on their own.
