this is oddly sad.

Nah I'm with you, I don't think Pink Moon is overtly sad
>>73077598
I have to agree with >>73077917. I have never really found Nick Drake's music to be sad. For me, there is this bittersweet tinge to his music and yet it's inherently bright and optimistic. There is more sweetness to his music than there is bitterness. Even in a song like Place to Be, you have a line like "And now I'm older see it [the truth] face to face" that is immediately followed by "And now I'm older gotta get up clean the place" or "Now I'm darker than the deepest sea" and "Just hand me down, give me a place to be." These ostensibly sad verses don't wallow in themselves. They look to the coming and arriving future with determination and promise.

Have you listened to Elliot Smith OP? Either/Or is a perfect starting point

I tend to think of Pink Moon as being more melancholy than sad, it's just got this overall mood of being somewhere between happiness and sadness
>sad music
>has lyrics

I knew Mac was sad, but not this sad. Moonlight on the River was great.
>>73078500
I didn't expect much from this album at all, but moonlight on the river knocked me out. The rest of it was a pleasant surprise as well.

>childish "le edgy" sperging out > genuine emotions

>dsbm isn't genuine
Wew lad. How does it feel to know that your sadness has never gone beyond "muh gf" and "muh dead relative"?
>>73078492
I agree. DSBM doesn't need to depend on lyrics to create a truly depressive atmosphere. The music itself carries on most of the emotion. The occasional scream vocals only add to the atmosphere.

>hurr durr, it's cold hear een Norvay. i'm soo depresst
>>73077598
M8, don't worry. Today, after 5 months of intense mourning, I feel I got over my last gf.
The feeling of joy cannot be easily described. Now, I look back and realize how much time and energy I wasted in a relationship that was doomed to failure. We don't have to let that happen again. You will grow stronger after this, m8. I know, you have heard that before, people used to tell me that everyday and I thought it was pure bullshit. But it's not. It's not. You will get it. Cry as much as you need to. You will eventually get over her.

Classic Sad Van Zandt

Classical music cannot be topped when it comes to expressing feelings of the most intense sadness.
Here, have a few of my favorites:

This song, for me, is charged with terrible regret.

Oh boy, this fucking song... despair and small flashes of hope that ultimately get obliterated by the infinite weight of pain.

Allegedly, Bach, the greatest musical genius, composed this after the death of his wife. Many people think it's one of the greatest pieces of music ever created.
