Holy shit
Is this even considered punk?
Not to me
its punk it just borrows sounds from other genres on some songs

Its pretty punk

Cowpunk desu,
On a semi-related note, idk why this sub hates on punk so much. 80% of mu-core bands have punk influences or roots.

Kinda. But that's the point Zen Arcade pushed the outer limits of what we considered punk at the time in 82 and labelmates The Minutemen said they could take it a step further into proto-post-hardcore and alternative rock.
Why is this album being spammed I thought most non-normies went through the major SST library during high school
who cares

go back fuckface
Why is the first Mission of Burma EP considered post-punk? Sounds straight up punk to me.
Genres mean absolutely nothing.

Kek.
It's because punk influenced music (noise rock, post-punk, etc) is ok but pure punk is fucking derivative trash.

you're not fooling anyone

Wasn't Zen Arcade also released in 1984? Like a month or two before Double Nickels, iirc. I remember reading that the Minutemen were motivated to do such a big album because they had just heard that their labelmates were doing something so ambitious

PLEDDITOR DETECTED

Maybe you're right something like that it's been a while since I read up on it. But yea they were heavily inspired by what Husker Du was up to at the time.

Zen Arcade inspired Minutemen to make DNotD a double album (it was originally a single album), the release of ZA was delayed so both albums could be released on the same day.

Okay yeah that sounds like what I read. I think it was in that book "Our Band Could Be Your Life"
