I was going to shitpost and say that Tool's Ænima was better, but I can't bring myself to say that even ironically.

OK Computer actually was better, though. There were a lot of albums that were so great from the 90s that it's hard to say which one was the "best".

Ok, is ITAOTS a meme by /mu/ or what? It keeps being reposted as the quintessential /mu/ album, but frankly, I don't get it. I've listened to it probably like 10 fucking times and I honestly think it's nothing special. /mu/ was right about many other albums and I bought a lot of albums thanks to here but this one I don't understand the hype over it. What am I missing? Are my tastes just shit?

It's my favorite album but I'm on mobile so real quick.
1. Production. They used a ton of natural in-studio effects to create maybe the fuzzies record ever, and they had mics as close as possible the instruments (I love how you can hear the guitar string buzz).
2. Jeff magnum was pulling from a huge influence of traditional music mixed with lo-fi indie that created this really unique sound, it wasn't ahead of its time, its timeless
3. Lyrically I love the imagery which sticks out at first: I can see the two headed boy dancing around the room in church shoes. Then once you incorporate the overarching story with Anne frank and religion and dream characters the lyrics reveal new stuff every time you listen.
4. Joy. Despite singing about abusive parents and the fucking holocaust it still is an album that radiates joy and hope throughout (part of that is aforementioned warm fuzzy production). I ended up writing a lot
