Who here only listens to instrumental music?
i love a lot of instrumental music but why limit your horizon like that?

It's not that I'm purposely limiting myself, but I've grown to dislike music with a forced narrative. Most of it is just narcissistic self promotion, or a shallow message. I do like when vocals are used more as an instrument rather than just telling a story over a beat (so many good beats are ruined by bad lyrics/stories)
Is that from the X Japan documentary? It's out?

I dig that perspective but even when theres a lyric based narrative it doesnt necessarily make the music secondary or less important. Stuff like spiderland and laughing stock are a great example that anyone on /mu/ would know. Theres a movement thats explained with words but its even more apparent with the changes in the music that something is happening. I usually dont pay attention to lyrics until like the second or third time hearing something just out of habit of focusing on how the song was written but even bad or cliche lyrics can be fun to think about from a writers perspective.

I don't, but I do think instrumental music is superior.

I do appreciate poetry and story telling, but I think there's something special about pure music without any pretensions, lyrics can be a distraction sometimes

I don't but instruments will always be better than vocals.
I gravitate towards music that's instrumental or has indecipherable vocals
but I'm also a poetry nerdhole
I guess I go to sounds for sounds and words for words
