Argue about what your personal favorites are. I've only very recently gotten into both genres so my picks are pretty much the most entry-level shit ever, but I'd have to go with pic related or Apollo for now.

Conduit Closing just put out a new one this week. Missteps III.
Their earlier work was more drone/ambient, this one is.. cinematic? Still, surprisingly good, top notch production quality. Caught me off guard.
Try some GAS my man. Pop and Konigsforst are my faves. Narkopop, the album he released this year, is good too.
pic-related and Nurse With Wound's Soliloquy for Lilith are my favorites
Steep Hills of Vicodin tears literally makes me contemplate suicide everytime, I've been getting into Ambient recently too so what I've heard is entry level shit too but in case you haven't listened to them yet I would recommend you listen to Fourth World Possible Musics and Ambient 4: On Land and Ambient 1: Music for Airports, also as >>73010950
says Narkopop is pretty good. So far the album that I like the most is also The Tired Sound of Stars of The Lid. Also not sure if what you are looking for but Flood by Boris is very good and has this long a drawn out sound that one likes in drone.
Oh there's also an album that was posted in a sharethread called Music for Church Cleaners and it's also worth checking out

I don't listen to much ambient but this has always been a personal favorite of mine. Anything else similar to this?

similar-ish, this is another one of Adam Wiltzie's projects.
Just recently been getting into more ambient type stuff though I'm not sure if you'd call this 100% ambient. Managed to get through it in the last 2 days, I think I prefered winter ray and sun/moon more personally.

Dude. You have the best taste. Check out:
Stars of the Lid
A Winged Victory for the Sullen
Aix Em Klemm (or maybe it was Aix En Klemm)
Anything else by Dustin O'Halloran
Anything else by Adam Wiltzie
And a couple other related artists like Eluvium, Sleepingdog, and Hammock (not really the same style at all but idk, I always compare them for some reason)

AWVFTS's self-titled is one of my favorite albums of all time. Literally everything about it is absolutely perfect. One of my few 10/10s. I liked Atomos but idk, it just didn't have the same vibe for me. the s/t was like, the perfect length and every track was totally perfect. literally not a bad note i feel like. I guess because Atomos was more of a soundtrack then a real serious album.
Narkopop was great too, Voigt definitely still has it. Cheers anon

yes deep listening, so good. I feel like this Greg Davis album deserves more listens, he had a good take on the mid-2000's digital drone sound.

I've been meaning to check out Stars of the Lid for awhile now, where should I start?

You can kinda go anywhere with them. Personally I enjoy "...and Their Refinement of the Decline" most, but all their albums are great. as you go through their discography they get a lot more airy, artsy, and classical-y in with the drone. So if you like darker stuff, start with something like Music for Nitrous Oxide (their really early work) and if you like lighter stuff, i'd say try "Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid" or Refinement. if you maybe want something with a little of everything you could try one of their EPs like Avec Laudenum (spelling probably slightly off)
Godspeed man, SotL is fucking amazing. Definitely check out related projects also, they're all pretty similar.
