Schopenhauer - was it Schopenhauer? Yes, I believe so - anyway, Schopenhauer once said that "All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." This quote would certainly apply to the masterpiece we have before us, the debut EP from Swedish onkyo musician Hampus Gronvall, Magenta Circuit. At once genre-transcending and genre-solidifying, magenta circuit clocks in at just 24 minutes in length but displays clear influences from the likes of The Lamp Post Chronicles, Iannis Xenakis, Vladimir Nabokov, John Cage, and even The Beatles - yes, those same mop-topped kids who you might remember for "I Want To Hold Your Hand," not some obscure Japanese psych-kraut-disco funk parody.

How to describe an album as majestic as this? Well, it's rather simple. It's noise, plain and simple, noise - music distilled, distraught, and retaught to a generation of children weaned on barely-experimental standbys like Faust or John Zorn. Yet there is a musicality to the noise displayed on magenta circuit that fellow onkyo musicians sometimes lack.
