do people not like this particular NiN album? i think its a solid 7/10
>>
Should have had Home in the regular release.

>>
>>72982512
In my eyes there is no nin album that is below 8/10.
>>
>>72980600
I was a little disappointed when it got released because it wasn't as ambitious as the fragile.
That being said, it's still pretty good, I learnt to like it over the years.
>>

FLIP FLOP FLIP FLOP FLIP

As the other guy said, it's basically one half terrible radio rock, and then one half of the album which Trent actually wanted to make in the first place before he got bored.

I still think Right Where It Belongs is the best NIN outro.
>>
>>72982575
atta' boy anon

>tfw they never got to fully collab
>>
>>72982626
its not even that terrible though, there's at most 3 kind of boring tracks on this album
>>
Nah it's just below Trent's standard. Last 4 tracks are great though.
>>
Yes, compared to Reznor's others

YZ was miles ahead

Yeah, I was very Disappointed (hahaaa) at first as well, but then I started reading into that Reznor actually went to Rick Rubin for advice on how to write an album as personal as Fragile without it nearly killing him.
>>
Absolutely fucking disgusted by it. Trent went from brooding industrial-tinged metal to unbelievably bland radio cock rock. I understand that an artist needs to change to avoid stagnation, but this albuma only purpose is to remind his fan base how superior all of his previous albums were.

I would consider WT an investment in phase two of Trent's career. It was the firs time he paired up with Atticus Ross and they were feeling out ways to pull nine inch nails kicking and screaming into the 21st century,
>>
>>72982747
It's sad that everything has to change, but you have to keep going forward. Otherwise Nails risked a fate similar to that of the revival of Skinny Puppy in 2000. They tried to pretend it was still 1996 and suffered major creative blowback.

Skinny Puppy is still a great live band, and the quality of their work has increased. But there was a time where it just felt like a corpse and not in a good Skinny Pupper way.

>Skinny Puppy
First time I see it being mentioned on /mu/, nice.

I bought this when it came out and I was so disappointed.

>First time I see it being mentioned on /mu/, nice.
They were brought up the other day in one of the /dark/ threads.
>>
>>72982837
I love skinny puppy and I agree they turned lackluster but I would consider the nu-Puppy material to be at least mediocre. WT (and practically everything after) has been trash. I'd rather a great artist just give up making music when they realize the creative juices have stopped flowing rather than taint their legacy and add more steaming piles to the already overflowing sewer of modern music.

Not anyone's fault you have a thrash taste anon.

>Meanwhile Year Zero comes by with massive ARG, brand new sound

Full of shit man.
>>
I liked it when it came out, but listening now it doors not hold up. I know that's a flip flop flip, but its just kind of banal now. That said, it does have good moments and I agree Right Where it Belongs is still a quality NIN track

I thought it was really corny.

Pretty much yeah.
Although I would agree that WT is the weakest in the discography. Everything that came after it was better. And I think that HM was absolutely great contrary to what people say.
>>72983455
I would prefer new NIN materiel, NTAE was such a great EP, leaving taste for more. Their band is cute though. I hope for a new track or something in Twin Peaks.
>>
After studying a little how to make electronic music and how synth works, Pretty Hate Machine sounds even more amazing.
In the context of synthpop/EBM, it's really incredible, probably the best in that genre.

You guys should check the demos, Purest Feelings, if you haven't done it yet.

Hadn't heard of that, will do

Too add. NTAE is the first time this feeling hasn't happened.

The remix of this song by Genesis is really cool, I almost prefer it to the original.
>>
NTAE impressed the fuck out of me, just that chorus in Burning Bright. showcases how far Trent has gone both in life and his work.

He is an inspiration, holding so much fucking power
