Does anybody on /mu/ like David Binney?
Which are your favorite albums by him?
Thoughts on his new release from this year?
For those who haven't heard of him, he makes really good jazz that is very unique but still fun to listen to.

why is trying to start a thread about an artist I like "spamming"?
>>72965877
it's not Grimes or Death Grips

this exact thread was posted before and it was deleted.

I deleted it myself because I forgot to add the last part for people who have never heard of him before dumbass

I have only heard a couple of albums as him as sideman. He's pretty good, although I think I may prefer Seamus Blake solos. Which album as leader should I listen to?

Out of Airplanes, Third Occasion, Lifted Land, and Bastion of Sanity are my favorites of the ones that I've heard but he has a lot.
What do you recommend by Seamus Blake?

I'll check these out. Already have Lifted Land and Bastion of Sanity in my catalog. As for Blake, definitely listen to the four albums he did with the "group" Opus 5, amazing chemistry throughout the whole four projects (some amazing musicians in here as well); Conrad Herwig's Unseen Universe; Misha Tsiganov's
Spring Feelings and if you wanna get a sense of his composition skills, Bellwether is a good starting point.

I like his recent albums - I started following him when Graylen Epicenter came out
I've listened to Anacapa the most - it has a nice contemporary fusion flavor while still having some Criss Cross'y post-bop elements

I've heard a lot of good things about him. Mostly from JTG I think. Is there a consensus on his absolute best album?
>>72965851
Yeah! I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think Binney has one of the most distinctive voices as a composer and soloist in jazz today. Good to see other people getting into him.

I was just listening to Unseen Universe the other day and that album is amazing. I want to transcribe all of David Kikoski's solos on that record.

Depends what you're into really. Most of his Criss Cross albums are acoustic and post-boppy but with a lot of elements of rock music as well. The non-Criss Cross albums have more going on with larger ensembles and electronics and things if you're into that.

David Kikoski is unbelievable.

David Binned forever.
My favorite is lifted land
