honestly just look it up on youtube and listen to all the related vids. iv found lots of cool japanese stuff that way. also, if you don't know yellow magic orchestra, their early albums are sweet. ++ sakomato's solo work

tatsuro yamashita, masayoshi takanaka, toshiki kadomatsu, and to a lesser degree even though he was on that album: haruomi hosono who is a fucking god (see all Miharu Koshi which he produced/composed for)
fyi, that album isn't citypop, it's pre-citypop era when everyone was doing ocean/beach/southernislands shit. eiichi ohtaki - rainy wednesday, and yoshino fujimaru. momoko kikuchi (check all on discogs, some not on youtube), tomoyo harada (same, 82-88 singles and other 80s albums, apex), watanabe marina - evergreen, asami kado (esp. AntiFleur****), taeko ohnuki, saito yuki, saeko suzuki, hiroko yakushimaru, there's a few other odds and ends in there worthwhile, but that's pretty much it for "jpop" of late 70s to early 90s, the parco-saison era (see momus livejournal/tumblr for info), bubble economy japan, peak of humanity.
