If i had to pick between their more electronic and glitchy sound and their more punk distorted sound i'd pick the electronic one i think. I still don't like Government Plates, mostly because it doesn't have a lot of MC Ride and most tracks just loop endlessly with no real progression, NIggas On The Moon however -- after not liking it at all at first ended up blowing me away.

I really love the feel & the bleached, rhythmic juggernauts that keep blasting through into you, the very small glitches & hitches, the "videos" that came with the album also add to the experience. What are opinions? BP is good, but felt like DG were playing too safe with it and it doesn't compare to TMS, JD and NLDW. TMS was quite varied, going from pop to noise and it has one of the better opening tracks, as well as closing ones, too. I love NLDW the most because of it's sheer paranoid vibe it gives off, it's borderline schizophrenic even. It also has my favorite track list from them, shit like Stockton, Lil' Boy, Come Up And Get Me, Hunger Games, No Love, World Of Dogs, Bass That Rattles and Artificial Death (a bit long, but I don't mind), you get the picture already. It had some weak ones like Pop and Deep Web, but it's quite strong overall and it'll always remain my favorite. Those fucking synths on Bass, man! JD also left a strong impact on me on multiple listens, especially it's opening track which is just nuts, as is the whole album.

I don't get the NOTM connection that so many people are claiming, nor the Government Plates one.

This sounds more like a blend of Interview and More Than The Fairy to me.

I can't tell you how many times my opinion has changed on a song by hearing impassionate people talk about them, it gives a different frame of reference for songs and allows me to maybe appreciate or hear something I hadn't picked up before. Just a while ago on /mu/ some drunk guy made a pretty banal post that didn't go very in depth at all of a song on an album I had listened to once and then given up on, I revisited it cause the guy clearly sounded like it moved him and that helped grow my appreciation for that album as a whole.

What are you afraid of picking apart details in songs you like for fear of sounding dumb? Trust me, you look way dumber making ranked lists.

I downloaded the split up version of it today and have been listening to it as individual songs and I don't think it's the same at all.

I think this project is largely favored by doing the full 22 minutes in sequential order. I would say that it's like NOTM that way, but I think NOTM holds up incredibly well on an individual song to song basis too.

But I think there's probably a reason they put this up as a single 22 minute piece and not 7 individual songs.

They're definitely getting more experimental but also more playful and less conceptual. I like this, as I feel like the cold "accelerated" sound of post bottomless pit stuff was basically brought to its logical conclusion with Jenny Death. How they are approaching it now shows more of an attempt to conjure similar feelings through songwriting than a kinda surface level presentation on a conceptual level. It mirrors the process of many "non musicians becoming musicians" (zach is a drummer obv but clearly mostly uses ableton along with Andy in Death Grips shit proper. beats are often straight and machine like with no variation in velocities which is unlikely with midi triggered drums. there are obvious clip triggering on Government Plates where the samples will obviously cut off due to like some interval based activation of samples. someone will still get offended by this, no doubt) like Einsturzende Neubauten or Skinny Puppy, who began conceptual and formless and slowly became more interested in composition.
