What It Takes to Move Forward is up there, definitely super underrated
>>72901173
The fucking basslines on this album man. So good.
>>72901631
Never understood mineral. Seen em twice though.
>>72903021
How It Feels to Be Something On > Diary For sure.
>>72903138
Do people consider this emo at all?
>>
>>72901173
This is hipster as fuck, but imo the promise ring's first album is better. It's much more raw and classic midwest-y.

>>
>>72903598
>>72903613
okay cool glad i can pass i don't listen to a whole ton of emo, really dig the mathy side of the spectrum though
>>
>>72903635
youd love the Brave Little Abacus then, half their discography is really sad and really experimental but mostly in 4/4 but the other half is a little less sad and really mathy
check out Masked Dancers youll love it

also Our Daily Fix and Toasted Plastic are great math bands, again not too sad but really technical. i actually knew both of them personally lol

What it takes to move forward.
>>
>>72903773
Masked Dancers mah man thats the album!
>>72903779
you should actually listen to the bands full discography in order if you have the time, its so much more impactful but either way youll enjoy the album!

the other bands are on bandcamp id link it but im on mobile and im too drunk to switch that many tabs aha
>>
>>72903773
Masked dancers is mathier, but 'just got back from the discomfort' is a far superior record imo
>>
>>72903881
agreed, especially if youre into excessively complex arraignments, sad confusing lyrics, weird interludes, and shitty mixing. which is by no means a bad thing Discomfort is in my top 10, it just all adds up to make it such a "human" album

im still trying to decode certain parts of it, i wish i could compose something even half as good

>What It Takes to Move Forward is up there, definitely super underrated
>super underrated

it's a good album but what the fuck it's far from underrated status
>>
>>72903994
not the guy who posted that but as far as i can tell is that outside the predominate circles Empire Empire is almost unheard, thus leading to the perceived underrated status. ive mentioned them to some new age emo kids (like got into the scene after 2014) and they were clueless

Keith is such a great dude tho, EE actually played my friends basement back in 2012. him and the band slept in my living room (because i had carpets lol) and we played Mario Party the next morning before they left lol

Normie here, but this album always encompasses my emo era better than any else.

Genre labeling aside, Blue by Joni Mitchell is the best viscerally emotional album of all time.
