Most of his fans I know of didn't. I know that I found him myself in around 2008 because I made a typo searching for Murder By Death's album "Like the Exorcist, But More Breakdancing" and found his song "I'll Do Anything But Breakdance For Ya, Darling"

which, ironically, has a lyric where he talks about finding a note in his locker saying he can't sing.

Song blew me away then and still does now. The piano in it is gorgeous and almost hypnotic in the break. I get why some people don't like him, but it feels like the majority of his criticism is along the lines of "people don't really like him" without commenting on his actual music
