Honestly one of the best experimental groups to hit the mainstream. I don't like every single song they've ever written, but there are some gems in there, and I can't honestly say I hate or even really dislike any of their work.
They were actually a fairly big deal in the mid-70s before they'd recorded anything. David Bowie saw them perform in 1976 and was awed. He became convinced instantly that this was the rock-and-roll of the future.
70s Devo and 80s Devo were pretty different beasts though, and unfortunately the latter is the one that most normies know about.

Yea the hardcore content is some of the most evocative content. Seems they lost a bit of that edge moving forward. Though I still do love later albums like Oh No.
A lot of rawkfags didn't like them when they broke in the late 70s. By rawkfags, I mean guys who believed rock should strictly be le macho whiteboy blues fantasy.

My cousin was like 14 back then and he said Devo spoke to him a lot more than the fucking Rolling Stones or other critics' pets.
One only needs Are We Not Men and Hardcore Devo Vols 1 & 2. Everything else is shit.

I'd imagine people mainly dislike them because they went on to make synth pop after their second album.

Are they not men?

I grew up with them and I rather enjoy the synthpop

>I grew up with them
That may be the reason - nostalgia.
