Why do people hate emo?
>>
Because when they hear it's emo people automatically think of the 2000's shit trend and le depressing cut your veins xdd emo
>>
In general people conflate the style of emo with the genre of emo. If you asked any person what they're favorite emo band is, I can absolutely guarantee you they would name a pop-punk band like MCR or Fall Out Boy.
>>
they hate themselves
>>
>>72865143
Yes, this
>>
>>72865143
the struggle
>>
>>72865138
>implying it's any different
>>
the fake sense of emotion
>>
>>72865119
normal people grow out of their angsty phase
>>
My problem is that most "soft" indie rock style emo treads dangerously close to that 2000s pop-punk sound, which i just can't stand at all.

Skramz is great though, my rule of thumb is that if it has a bit of screaming in it it's more likely to be good instead of just whiny and bland
>>
emo's kinda making a comeback here in Cali. IDK what most people are hating on.
>>
Emo is gonna have to undergo a bit of a facelift to shirk the hate it gets.
Screamo now has the alternative name "skramz" because screamo became such a negative term since it kept getting conflated with melodic metalcore bands like Asking Alexandria.
>>
>>72865145
the answer, reason it degenerated
>>
>>72865145
no thats WHY you listen to it
>>
>>72865328
Yeah, I truly don't understand why people started calling pop-punk and scenecore "emo".
I kind of think "skramz" is a cooler name though so I don't mind.
>>
um people still listen to it sweetie :^)

heh good one. I mean i'm not putting emo on a pedestal or anything but it's a helluva lot better than "muh sad (c)RAP"
>>
>>72865459
>anybody caring about lil tracy or horse head
>>
>>72865119
because emo hates itself
>>
>>72865494

>>
>>72865119
god i hate this fucking album so much, people seem to give it a pass just because of le edgy and cool album cover but it's just shitty track after the next
>>
>>72865512
oh HEAL NAW nigga

>>72865528
i like emo but i fucking hate the album. brand new is so goddamn overrated.
>>
A lot of people went through the phase and then look back with such atomic levels of cringe and vow to never be a part of that again
>>
>>72865138
>depressing cut your veins xdd emo
What's wrong with this?
>>
Can someone explain the appeal of this album to me? Heard it, hated it.

Anyone know of bands like Native Nod or Moss Icon? Not interested in post 2000 emo that much.
>>
>>72865119
Can someone explain to me why everyone keeps calling Brand New emo? If it doesn't sound like other emo bands, is it really emo?
>>
>>72865410
lil peep is the wigger conor oberst god damn
>>
>>72869353
Devil and God is it's own thing, but closer to post-hardcore imo. Their earlier stuff is straight pop punk
>>
emo needs to mature as a genere, i do like the orginal emo, sunny day real estate, american football, etc. Emo's peak was emo pop in the 2000's, left a bad taste in your mouth if you werent a fag or 13 year old girl.

I actually think emo is a very underutilized fusion genre, and is still young enough to be fused with other genres to make interesting new music scenes.
So far no one has the balls to make emo funk, though
>>
>>72865119
Brand new is emo for people who hate emo
>>
>>72869388
I think TDAG is pop-punk and not at all post-hardcore, but it's also been a while.
>>
>>72869263
Sounds like you're more interested in actual emo than "emo revival" ie mathy indie pop like American Football and Algernon Cadwallader.

In the more hardcore vein like Moss Icon and Native Nod, these were two great newer albums:

Not the Sun and Archers are the closest it gets to pop-punk, but even then it's not quite there. Everything else is closer to >>72869581, but with heavy pop influences (clean production, concise melodies). Listen to Your Favorite Weapon if you want some pop-punk, it's great
>>
>>72869581
hell yea this is all great
>>
Emo is still super popular in New Jersey
There's a pretty strong local scene and all the 2000s bands draw big crowds when they play around here
>>
>>72869880
You're delusional, go to bed Doug.
>>
feigned depression, annoying as fuck fan's, takes it cues from pop-punk (pop-punk is beyond shit), nothing goes on interesting musically etc
>>
>>72869900
>nothing goes on interesting musically
have you even listened to cap'n jazz / the other kinsella projects?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZQakdMOnz0

if the fans of a band are that important to you you're one of these typical /mu/ poser idiots who use music as an accessory

i bet you listen to coil, joy division, swans for them REAL DEPRESSIONS?
>>
a lot of it doesn't feel genuine
>>
>>72865119
People don't hate midwest/general american emo, they hated the '00s scene emo music like Tokio Hotel and its successors, crunk, crabcore and such.
But 2010s depressed girl metalcore like Bring Me The Horizon is the new scene emo and they're back to liking it now because it's for "grown ups".
>>
>>72870266
we hate both faggot. i cringe at people that think somehow one is more authentic or less commercial than the other. they both fucking suck
>>
im so sick of fake real emo soft indie rock bullshit
>>
>>72869896
It's Brian actually
>>
>>72865119
They've never heard of Sunny day real estate
