Thoughts on Paramore being /mu/core now?
>>
i like the album but fuck fantano, he doesn't get to decide our tastes for us

Fantano isnt /mu/
>>

besides melonhead, I've head plenty of good things about it, will give it a listen sometime this week
>>
>>72833902
he kinda is. People care about what he says around here and pretend it doesnt bother them
>>
>>72833902
Theres at least 3 threads a day debating him. Id say thats pretty /mu/ core
>>
>>72833823
i don't like that. i love paramore and i don't want them to be memes on this shitty board.
>>
>>72834030
haha you care :v)))))))
>>
I don't want to give Fucktano hate views, but does he suggest that the album would be a light 8 if No Friend was removed?
>>
>>72833823
Listened to it today, watched his review afterwards. I'm not agreeing with him on everything, but it's a surprisingly good album. I think No Friend was one of the greatest songs on the album, Mr. Melon didn't like it that much. Rose-Colored Boy was amazing.

I think his rating is pretty okay, I could give it a little lower than seven, but I should listen to it more before grading.

btw, I have always liked Paramore.
>>
>>72834122
More or less. He didn't like how less new wave-y it got in the second half of the album.
>>
>>72834122
He thinks that the vocals are mixed in too low thus making it a bad track which shouldn't have made the album.

He might given it a 8 if No Friend was removed

Imo No Friend would be great if vocals we're louder
>>
>>72834122
>>72834160
>>72834165
I think the low vocals was a nice thing, the song had a gaze-y feeling that was really interesting to hear from a band like Paramore.

So fun to see bands you like evolve into something that is also good.
>>
I know a girl who is fanatical about Paramore.
>>
>>72834200
No way man those vocals were way too quiet I hope someone makes an alternate version with louder vocals

Pretty much my only complaint with the album the rest of it is comfy

>>72835472
yeah, the mixing underutilized Aaron something fierce. I think it's super cool they were willing to take a risk and put something like that in their album (seems like it might be a trend going forward with Future from s/t and No Friend)

really wish they'd have tuned his voice up a bit, it's really hard to hear him.

Is paramore even good? best album or starter rec?
The only reason I even know about them, is because the lead is fap material
>>
>>72836742
2 starting points depending on your preference:
- pop punk/more aggressive music: Riot!
- new wave/more eclectic music: Paramore (self titled)

all their albums except their mediocre debut (only 2 good songs) are very good and a fun listen.
>>

Why do people care about this review as opposed to let's say his new Feist one? She was more successful back when indie was huge and received a better score. Why obsess over paramore out of all things?
>>
>>72836879
better check their self titled first
>>
>>72836953

>Why obsess over paramore out of all things?
it's easy. they make good music. actual listenable music, not some listen-once dross. let's not forget they have a very good vocalist: hayley. it helps that she's a major cutie.

all in all, they're not revolutionary or anything. but they delivered many good songs during the years. they're actually likeable.
>>
>>72836966
what? their s/t is their best imo. i love their new album but their s/t is even better.
>>
>>72837035
their music is shit, no one would care about them if the girl didn't look like a hot piece of fuckmeat
>>
>>72837035
>listen to dross
Have you ever listened to Feist? The remainder is a pop masterpiece and she didn't stagnate to the point where she felt the need to jump into the nu-wave bandwagon.
>>
>>72836946
Because people don't want music, they want fap material, and Hayley Williams is hotter than Feist.

Sad but true
>>
>>72837112
>their music is shit
i disagree. they have tons of good songs. the girl is hot but don't let that thing distracts you from the actual music. if you want some well made pop rock, paramore is one of the answers.

if you don't like this sort of music, well, bad luck.
>>
>>72837035
Feist is better looking than hayley and now has milf tier aesthetics.
>>
>>72837173
>if you don't like this sort of music, well, bad luck.
Basically this. This upbeat indie sounding new-wave revivaly dance rock is about as good as such a thing gets, especially considering the modern rock landscape.

>>
>>72837148
yes, i did. it's sad that her first 3 albums were good (monarch, let it die, the reminder), but her music turned into dull dross (metals, pleasure). her latest album is named pleasure but there's nothing enjoyable about that cheap pj harvey copy. not even one decent melody. honestly i'm surprised that she still has a fanbase after such underwhelming decade since the reminder.
>>
>>72836946
Because she's not an attention whore and actually has artistic integrity. Plus she's a borderline recluse so people here don't get the chance to jerk it to her feet as she doesn't bombard the internet with press photos.
>>
>>72836742
Start with Riot!

If you start with singles listen to

>>72837170
the reality is more pragmatic than that: feist's music isn't that likeable besides her obvious singles. seriously, try to listen to all her discography except the singles. see?

meanwhile, paramore are like a hit machine. they have a shitload of good songs (singles, album tracks,s b-sides). seriously, try to make a paramore best of and see what i mean. absolutely killer.
>>
>>72836786
Honestly the debut is alright, even if as a point of reference to where they got. It's not mindblowing or anything, but it's not utter dogshit.
>>
>>72837255
that song is fucking enjoyable. wtf is not to like about it? if you prefer heavier songs, try careful, ignorance, brick by boring brick, monster, now, misery business, anklebiters, part ii and especially let the flames begin.

it may sound edgy but they're actually good for those who like them. remember kid: music taste is subjective.

>>72837497

it's not odd at all once you listen to all their songs at least 3 times. they have lots of good songs. here's just a 25 songs list:

hard times
pool
told you so

>I can't imagine anyone in their 20-30 enjoying this
there are lots of people in their 20-30 enjoying this. and even older than that. remember: the original new wave was in the '80s. people that were music fans then would find a lot to like about their new new wave revival album. i can see blondie, devo, talking heads and kim wilde fans being in love with after laughter.

just look at their new image. it's basically the new blondie.

liking fun music has no age limit. just sayin'.

the thing is that their music is not a nostalgia cash in. it sounds modern, vital and genuinely enjoyable. their fanbase used to be much younger when they were pop punk but fortunatelly they were clever enough to evolve their style. evolve or die.
>>
>>72837283
Wait. So you're chastising people for liking Feist's recent work because it sounds like PJ Harvey's earlier stuff but praising paramore for making their music sound like late Blondie? He is just a dude with an opinion. He analyses music but unlike critiques like Scaruffi, he depends a lot on his very own personal experience, and focuses on the sheer entertainment factor, so his reviews couldn't be more subjective. He gave a bad score to the new Slowdive album because it disappointed him, even if it's still better than most of the memerap albums Fandango gives 6/10s to.

New wave style. Maybe inspired by Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons (80s band). Hayley took the aesthetic seriously.

paramore are still a rock band, though. after laughter sounds like a natural continuation of their s/t/ album.
>>
I'm astonished. This sounds sophisticated, but still accessible. The best kind of pop.
>>
So I liked Riot! a lot when I was 16-17ish back when it came out, I still have my copy of it and I listen to it every now and then out of nostalgia but I never really bothered to follow most of what they did after because I figured I had outgrown them and they were still a "teen" band. I should give the latter stuff a listen, sounds like I was missing out and I'm at a point now where I don't mind if the music is a bit "juvenile" (not saying that as a knock but I'd imagine at least some of it still is) as long as it still sounds decent.

their music is still kinda juvenile but in the best way possible. it doesn't sound mature, old and boring but lively, fun, energetic. it's less in your face and more sophisticated. it's like the difference between punk (sex pistols) and post-punk (wire). all in all, their music is a lot of FUN.
>>
>>72846884
>as long as it still sounds decent
imo they're better now. try "paramore" and "after laughter" and see for yourself.
>>
>>72839252

I disagree with that. I enjoyed what the Farros brought performance-wise just as much as Hayley herself. The early albums wouldn't be what they were if the Farros weren't as good as they were. I went back to Brand New Eyes after having not listened to it regularly for years and I still dig the instrumentation, the guitars and drums on it are legitimately good in their own right. I actually wrote the band off on the spot when they left, it's why I didn't listen to the S/T until After Laughter was just about out.

funny how the band didn't implode but actually got better after the farro bros left. i think their producer justin meldal johnsen (seriously check his work https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Meldal-Johnsen#Credits ) had a big contribution.

however on after laughter i'm surprised of how good is the drumming. every drum fill is in the right place. zac farro is a really good drummer.

Get with the times Gramps.

Now that Paramore is /mu/core, let's rate their albums amongst each other
s/t > After Laughter > BNE > Riot > AWKIF

Is Anthony Fantano the biggest cancer on the modern landscape of the music industry perception?

How the fuck can you be this wrong about an album, it's downright embarassing.

I say that from now on we ban any and every single one of the threads related to him.

Since it is more than obvious that he has no fucking idea how to comprehend or even analyze something deeper outside his generic indie/folk (lol)

I mean how long has it been since this album was released and he tried to pretend that he was able to unpack everything that was said on the project?

No, its simply not possible the fact that he decided to rank it without fully or hell even partially comprehend it only shows that this has turned into merely a job for him.

Looking for clicks and fame and not a competent review is a shame since me as well as most people here even if it were the case that most people now would not be able to allow themselves to come forward and be honest with themselves on a public way that they would also admit that they used to listen to him.

But after this it is beyond definitive that whatever authority he used to have on the public discorse of opinion relativity is mainly because of persistence and not quality.

Shame on me.

Shame on you.

But most importantly of all.

Shame on him.

one slight issue: Riot is better than BNE. other that, it's spot on.
>>
>>72847451
quality is subjective because music taste is subjective. big sales and high chart positions mean that their music resonated with a lot of people.

checkmate.
>>
>>72847466
BNE has some of their most memorable songs though. Playing God, Brick by Boring Brick, Ignorance. Riot has...uh...Misery Business and I guess That's What You Get

correct

add crushcrushcrush (their catchiest song), when it rains, miracle, let the flames begin & for a pessimist, i'm pretty optimistic. those songs are better than Playing God, Brick by Boring Brick, Ignorance.
>>
>>72847671
>this implies quality is subjective

it is. you can't be objective when it comes to judging quality. it totally depends on your taste. this is not math where 2+2=4 all the time (except when radiohead say it's 5).

He did some basslines on s/t/ and plays the bass on after laughter he's the fourth member of Paramore

true. taylor is underrated as songwriter. hayley gets all the credits, but it's really a songwriting duo (she and taylor).

whats the patrician version of paramore?

in b4 memeing
>>
back to the comparisons with blondie. some of you know already that blondie have a great drummer, clem burke. this dude is a groove machine; he has a really cool style (try 'atomic' as a quick example). maybe zac farro of paramore is not a s gifted as burke but he's damn close.

Paramore
>>
>>72848193
paramore are already patrician. but if you want an even better band, try metric. they're new wavey like the current version of paramore but subtler and sexier.

synthetica is a grower. their worst album is pagans in vegas but it's still decent. old world underground, live it out, grow up and blow away, and fantasies are all awesome.
>>
>>72847939
Updating my own opinion, only two tracks left and I still think it's pretty decent but I'm disappointed the energy kind of dropped off in the second half. The first three tracks set an amazing tone but the drop off is noticeable

who listened to carly rae jepson? or that one yellow covered pop album? Or fucking swans? Or Death Grips? before Fantano's reviews. No one on this board. How many threads are started when his ratings are an upset? How many times did the dust settle afterwords and /mu/ came to a silent agreement that his opinion is the gospel? You're fucking kidding yourself if you think he doesn't have a massive amount of sway on this board.
