I for one was very underwhelmed.
His voice is rich and full but the music itself was lacking.
Just sounds like a collection of demos.
He needs to collaborate with other musicians who can flesh out his compositions.
Sam critcism I had about john moreland's Tulsa Heat album.
John's new Big Bad Luv album is the sound of him leveling up with full band arrangements that add, not obscure his songs.
The next Colter album will prove whether he has room for expansion.

>see one anon post about how this guy was a protoge of Townes Van Zandt, was part of the Outlaw Country scene and in "Heartworn Highways", and a huge influence on the alt-country movement
>turns out he's really a 90s/00s artist, the guy responsible for the horrible proto-bro country redneck anthem "Copperhead Road" still played at every line dance and waffle house jukebox south of the mason dixon line

Was i memed?

True
>turns out he's really a 90s/00s artist
He was as good in the 90's & the '00's as he waa in the 80's yes.
>the guy responsible for the horrible proto-bro country redneck anthem "Copperhead Road" still played at every line dance and waffle house jukebox south of the mason dixon line
False. While that may be his song, it was never a "proto-bro country redneck anthem." Bro country is generally characterized as being overproduced, autotuned, pro-tooled, lyrically simplistic posturing machismo draped in pre-distressed denim, major label BS intended to be heard on tinny earbuds or in echo-y arena venues.

Definitely a contender for best new pasta though i'll give you that.

He also wrote that Galway Girl song which you can't go 10 minutes without hearing in Ireland

the farther forward you move from the eighties the more often you have to look outside of the mainstream to find anything good.
