I really like Grimes, but the more I watch of her, the more convinced I become that she is some sort of an illusion. She is just to perfect for the musical/cultural slot she is filling. She seems like she was genetically designed at the Advanced Club Kid Research Facility.

But if you go back and watch her evolution, it seems there was some ironing out of her wrinkles. By wrinkles I mean the unappealing stuff that she kinda glammed up all of a sudden.

From what I heard, she lashed back at her critics about shaving her armpits because she said she was working all the time and was a "working woman" or something of the sort. What you said there about her upbringing makes me wonder about her actually. Whether she had a good or bad upbringing. I saw a presentation her mother did in Vancouver and she refers to herself as "claires bitch mother" and I figured something must have happened. The nervous ticks, speech impediment and lax cleaning regimen make me wonder if she was neglected. Her mother was a prosecutor. How do you figure it's a cop-out answer? She very clearly has said, on many occasions, that she has created grimes as a way to perform on stage and to project a "brand" of herself that she would otherwise have not been able to (so she says) as herself.

So my point, anon, was that we are never able to distinguish who she is because we never really know who she's showing to the world. Grimes or Claire. Or are they really just one in the same?
