Should I pick up the piano or the saxophone? Which one would /mu/ pick
I'll be able to have piano lessons but I like the idea of having a mobile instrument

The piano is the instrument of instruments and the absolutely best way to learn everything about music theory
>>72815714
music theory is universal you're actually retarded
saxophone
>>72815700
I'd pick piano, I think it's a more fun instrument to play =P

Piano

Yeah but piano is the best way to learn and understand it. The piano is like the image or epitome of music theory

the only advantages that it has is that it teaches you to read in treble and bass simultaneously and eases some aspects of compsoing
I would personally pick piano (granted I already play it) but it's versatile enough to use in any genre (not to say saxophone isnt but youll be in more demand if you play piano) and its also more fun.
Op i started with the Piano, i would recommend it for you, just like others said, the Piano is amazing to learn how music theory or music in general works, and you will be able to pick saxophone much easier on the future.
Still on the topic of instruments,
I play piano, guitar and drums already, and i am leaving to study another country next month and i wont be able to bring my piano and stuff with me, so i kinda wanted an easy to carry musical thing to bring along with me
I was thinking of a ocarina, but any of you know any other cool options

Pick up the saxophone because it's lighter. You might injure yourself by trying to pick up a piano.

Pick neither chose a patrician instrument the Violin.

The Violin sounds like shit, kill yourself

How about a harmonica? You can bring it everywhere, and it is fun as hell to play =) Easy enough to learn a few good songs pretty quickly, but difficult to master!

>implying viola isn't the superior bowed instrument

Even better than the harmonica is the melodica. (In case you dont know what that is it's the thing that sounds like a harmonica that you blow into and has piano keys on it)
