I would say from the start since Remission is awesome and they got weirder and weirder with time

Also, why does /mu/ hate KMFDM? up until Adios they made some solid stuff, ANGST/NIHIL/Xtort are all 8/10 albums.

Industrial peaked in 87-91 and guess where most of those bands came from.

I would say MM and nu-metal sucked what remained as the "soul" of the genre and all those shitty German EBM-goth crap was the final nail to the coffin

It died around the time Richard Patrick decided to make Industrial buttrock instead of remaining under Trent's tutelage.

The next generation just didn't materialize with anything of lasting effect. It wasn't helped when Trent washed his hands of Industrial music completely (Although if Burning Bright's lyrics are a preview of whats to come that might o longer be the case)

Around the same time Rammstein appeared on the map, so yeah, 1997 might be the year industrial died

Luckily some good classic bands came back in the mid 00's and released decent stuff or started touring again. Skinny puppy's post reunion stuff is decent (even if Ohgr and Download are better now) and saw Nitzer Ebb and Ministry live a couple of years ago and was one of the best shows I ever seen

it got overtaken by industrial-inspired crap like ebm and industrial rock
>>
>>72817007
I don't have the direct passage, but Al would lure young impressionable Trent into Binge Drinking, then call him a faggot for getting sick and would generally mistreat him. All of this was done during the early tours.

A few years later Trent called Al up about doing a remix for Get Down Make Love and they decided to have a contest of who could stay awake longer while drinking, so while Trent wasn't looking Al would snort cocaine, and put roofies into Trent's drinks. Trent finally passed out an Al shaved half his head before Trent woke up and started screaming.

the thing is, Sasha stole Raymonds band when they toured together, refused to reunite with En Esch, Gunter and Watt for a single benefit show and Lucia is a literall succibi who stirs the pot for them to keep fighting
meanwhile Pig, En Esch with Schultz are touring together and apparently having so much fun that some of the old female vocalists are joining in on some gigs, even Skold showed up.
And Sasha/Lucia are dissing them because they do KMFDM songs that they wrote

and thats just the tip

This is some good timing on this thread. I just started to dip my feet into EBM a few weeks ago. I didn't even know this stuff existed and I never really saw myself getting into industrial but its really growing on me. All i've listened to so far is the entry-level stuff discogs has recommended like Front 242, DAF, Die Krupps, and Ministry. I also randomly bought a Controlled Bleeding record I found on record store day (Curd).

Where should I go from here? Any essentials I haven't touched yet?

power electronics has always been there
techno and goth killed industrial, when moshpits where replaced by dancefloors and all bands sounded like depeche mode trance remixes.

industrial used to be heavy and bands incorporating guitars was just a matter of time.
then nu-metal and metropolis records happened and RIP

remember, this is how a industrial crowd looked like back then.

Same as most other transgressive artistic movements. It died when it moved away from being a form of cultural terrorism and just became another subculture. It dies when it got co-opted and commercialized.
So, in the early-to-mid 80s.

why are NIN-kiddies so fucking autistic
I mean, not that Nine Inch Nails is bad, it's just that their fans can't let an Industrial thread exist without mentioning "muh Tront" once
>>

Better?

Also, I'm amazed this thread is still up.
>>
>>72833771
Actually, is this better?
And yes, I've been listening to the chart
>>
>>72833771

>unironically listening to Laibach

I've been following this chart for now.
Also, I really liked that album, I don't see the problem in it.
>>
>>72834623
that chart sucks, that explains a lot
>Rest in Peace instead of Knees and Bones or Trudge
>Naive instead of Xtort, Angst, or Nihil
>TV Sky instead of Leau Rouge
etc

>I really liked that album, I don't see the problem in it.
there is none, its kind fun actually, but Laibach are a literal joke band, a succesfull one, but a joke that loses it's fun once its told
>>
>>72834837
I was looking to see if I could find another chart in the wiki or google, but I was not lucky.
>>
>>72834877
just start from the beggining with the classic bands, fuck charts
by classic bands I mean:

Einsturzende Neubauten
Ministry/RevCo
Nitzer Ebb
Skinny Puppy
Front 242
Coil
Foetus
Chrome
and some mentioned here that I dont remember now

the go with what you like,
>>
>>72834980
I've listened to about half of those, at least.
Going to check the others, thanks.

unironically this

All shit industrial music was made by Americans. NIN, Skinny Puppy, even Boyd. Industrial is a distinctive British art, maybe European. Everyone else can fuck off

Noise, Experimental, Power Electronics and Drone aren't Industrial, by the way
