Early "gangsta" artists like N.W.A. weren't particularly glorifying the culture, nor condemning it. They were simply LARPing to show exactly what that life was about, and they did it with a level of intelligence and awareness. Sometimes it felt like they were verging on satire as well. I mean, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre both came from respectable middle class backgrounds, and the only member who was involved with crime was Eazy-E.

But then a whole generation of aspiring rappers took their lyrics seriously and wrote lyrics bragging about bitches and money.
