CHVRCHES are a good synth-pop band though little else, The Bones of What You Believe (2013) and Every Open Eye (2015) are both fairly critically acclaimed and in my opinion decent albums although are both front-loaded. The band suffers generally from poor songwriting and a lack of consistency (this is especially true in Lauren's songwriting which is considerably uninspired and repetitive), almost every CHVRCHES track is written about poor relationships and abuse with little deviation whilst the synths often fail to differentiate one song from another. Its quite obvious that a large part of the band's popularity is unfairly due to Lauren's attractiveness (having the cutest tummy in the game will do that) and not the inclusion of producer Lain Cook who previously served as guitarist for the Scottish post-punk band Aerogramme. Still, they are good at what they do though nothing in particular, if you want an enjoyable synthpop band with more style than substance then they will certainly cater to your taste.

That being said whilst I know it may aggravate a lot of people I do to some extent respect Lauren for dismissing what is essentially idol culture in favour of promoting the band as a whole, even if I disagree with her ideology its better than having her prance about in a pink frock making peace signs and squealing like a plastic virago.
