It's pretty inoffensive but it isn't that interesting either. Few good tracks, but I wish he would go back to his Makeout Videotape style, it seemed much more genuine.
6.5/10 I reckon.

its a step forward in instrumentation but i think that his peak in songwriting in terms of pure composition is in 2 (possibly rnr rightclub, haven't heard that one admittedly)

nowdays alot of mac songs seem to fit into a certain cadence or rhythm with little variance, but with 2 each song felt different in rhythm and chord choice/melody. songs like robson girl, viceroy etc use lots of interesting colors and movements, utilizing dim/aug chords and not just the same chord progressions he seems to uses now.

im a huge fan of the sound, but if mac could get back into his old state of songwriting and tried new stuff thatd be great

forgettable

It was kind of dull. I appreciate Mac branching out of "jangle pop" because that sound was getting real stale,but this album is just kind of mediocre and uninspiring. It doesn't take any crazy risks besides for changing up the genre he made. The songs still all sort of sound the same and don't really carry any crazy interesting melodies or anything.

I need to give it another listen but I wasn't really thrilled with it my first time around.
