>Biff Bang Pow! - The Girl Who Runs The Beat Hotel
Alan McGee's band, the dude who ran Creation back in its heyday, lots of twee/neo-psych/jangly goodness

>pic related
It's all I've managed to snag on vinyl
Nowhere and Whirlpool are both original issues, the rest of the 90s releases are reissues

>>72800219
how much did you pay for Whirlpool and Nowhere?
This is my collection so far, pretty standard stuff.
>>72801221
Nowhere was 30 quid and ended up being in ridiculously good shape, both the sleeve and record are easily VG+/NM–
Whirlpool was £22 I think, the sleeve is decently beat up but it plays fine
Was that copy of Spooky a reissue?
>>72801324
Oh nice! It's the 1992 lithuania zona records edition. All the LP versions are from 1992, there are no recent reissues I think. I got it for cheap and in VG+ condition from discogs.
>>72801433

Which issue of Écailles de lune is that?

Help me out here
I've been trying to put together a simple Japanese shoegaze chart
Is there anything that oughtn't be here/should replace something?
real shoegaze hours
>>72808258
what about cosodorokitsune by shojoskip
>>72808686
wait i'm blind
>>72808258
Needs xinlisupreme, pasteboard and stereochrome
>>72799878
Maybe I'd give it another go but in a different frame of mind. It didn't sound bad, but it wasn't what I was looking for at the time.
>>72793755
I listened to Seance today again. It was ok but a bit TOO influenced by My Bloody Valentine (if that can even be a bad thing). Its partly why I don't enjoy much japanese shoegaze, they all kinda sound the same as each other, very few bands venture out and do something very different.
If I wanted to go listen to late 80s, early 90s shoegaze, I'd go do exactly that. I kinda want something (ironically) more tangible in terms of a melody, but to be elevated by that dreamy rhythm and base guitar. Its partly why one of my favourite albums is The Besnard Lakes - Until in Excess/Imperceptible UFO. It feels fresh and those clean vocals are something you can hold on to while you are drifting on those classic shoegaze tones. The new Ambersmoke and Slowdive fit these criteria for me
>>72808258
Can you make a pastebin or something, I can't type japanese runes
I just saw Boris live. They suck
>>72811796
just copy it from discogs or rym
>>72812423
wtf Boris were great live when I went to see them.
>>72812432
It was boring and sounded off. I dont even think they were enjoying it. Crowd was shit too.
Where did u see them?
>>72812490
saw them when they came to glasgow in december. It was fucking lit, for the buildup in farewell they used a smoke machine which ended up colouring the entire venue pink.
>>72812423
seeing them on friday
>>72812547
Hopefully its better for u then. It was at manning bar too which normally has great sound.
>>72808258
I would personally replace Oeil's Urban Twilight with there newer record. How comprehensive will this chart be? Japanese shoegaze is a decently sized scene and there are dozens of other bands that could fit this chart.
>>72810941
Definitely swapping the re;mo album for Xinlisupreme - despite how much I enjoy it I'd hesitate to call it "essential" I suppose
>>72812890
Trying to keep a relatively broad spectrum of bands covered while also factoring in basic popularity and general acclaim, hence shit like the vocaloid comp or the two older shibuya-kei influenced albums
If you had other suggestions of bands falling into the shoegaze/dream pop/noise pop/blackgaze/ethereal wave/slowcore/etc. umbrella I'd be totally open to suggestions though
Just trying to keep the whole thing at 25 albums since essential lists that end up with like 50+ albums for a niche geographic scene wouldn't seem very "essential" I guess
>>72813020
>Definitely swapping the re;mo album for Xinlisupreme
The songwriting is so good on the re;mo album, if it werent vocaloid it'd definitely be considered top-tier.
>>72813033
I do love it to death but the mikgazer comp I think covers a wider palette of what Japanese shoegaze can sound like by diving into electronic and straight up alt-rock influenced stuff
If another album seems like the obvious choice to swap out I'd definitely go with that since I'm always open to giving more exposure to the little-known albums I like
>>72813020
If that is the case then the list is fine. I would suggest replacing something with some album from Supercar, like Three Change Out!! or OOKeah!! Three Change Out is usually something people put here for japanese shoegaze although I don't think it is really fits the shoegaze sound.
>>72813020
Doctor Head's World Tower is essential Shibuya-kei/Shoegaze
>>72771021
>adding -gaze to the end of a word to name a genre
This annoys me
>>72813216
>combining the names of two genres to get the name of the resulting genre formed by the combination of the two genres
>annoying
It's better than calling things "doomshoe" or "blackshoe"
>>72813020
Juvenile Juvenile- Our Great Escape is something I think would fit the list.
