Hello, /mu/tants.
A guy I work with who is a self-proclaimed music snob told me that one of the ways he differentiates good lyrics from bad lyrics is this: "If the lyrics to a song are easy to remember after one or two listens, then they're shit. Anyone who knows what they're talking about will say the same thing." Now, I don't consider myself a music snob, but I'm detecting pretentious bullshit.
So, /mu/, it is my understanding that there are many here who know what they're talking about. Is this view some general consensus among sophisticated music fans, or is this just some random sperg idea that my coworker couldn't keep to himself?

couldn't figure out what the fuck he was saying until the 10th listen. Certified good lyrics then.

I don't know that the reverse is true as far as he's concerned. Just that if lyrics are simple enough to be easy to remember then they suck. I asked him to clarify and he just repeated what he had already said. I didn't pursue it because he is unpleasant to be around.
Lyrics should complement the sounds. Your friend is a fag.

I'm pretty sure you can remember Bob Dylan's lyrics after 2 listens, although not in entirety. Try this experiment with him and let him argue his position again.
