I'm going to be buying one soon and was looking at the Fiio X1. It seems like the best all around one for the price. I'm looking to spend no more than $100 but would like it close to $50.
Should I invest in one or just use my phone once I get a new one? I only don't like the idea of using my phone because they seem so fragile.
What portable music player do you use?

The display isn't a deal breaker but I like seeing album art myself. Might be worth it for that space though.
How long have you had it? Does it hold up well and not feel cheap?

IPod Classic is by far the most effective mp3 player i've used. I used a FIIOx3 before, but the interface is so shit. The issue being the device has no internal memory, so it will forget where you were if you press back, thus bringing you back to the top of the menu. That and the scroll wheel is slow as fuck. iPod can skip letters if you scroll fast enough (which is great if you have a huge library). I don't ask for much when it comes to mp3 players; just load fast, remember where I was when I press back, and have a high storage capacity.
I didn't notice much difference in sound quality either. Granted, it's more durable than an iPod, but what the fuck, just be careful with it and don't drop it.
Sansa Clip with SD card
Install Rockbox over the standard UI and it's fantastic

Heard it only takes micro SDs up to a certain size?

My main issue with Ipods are being over priced and not playing FLAC. I'm not a big user of FLAC but I still have a few albums in that format so it'd be annoying to single out those nad re download.
I really wish Nano had more storage capacity but the new ones with the touch screens ruined everything I liked about them.

You can use 32 or 64GB cards. Just make sure they are formatted as FAT32 and not exFAT or something else. Rockbox takes care of the rest.
I have a Fiio X3 best thing i ever bought internal amp is ace
