Their "alternative" status at the time was probably what made them popular in Chicago, as Chicago was always more of an "alternative" town than it was a grunge one.

But they weren't. The UK singles all started getting imported after word in music mags spread across the atlantic of Definitely Maybe's acclaim. They were getting a lot of college radio airplay and at the time of this gig Supersonic had just been released to alternative rock radio and the video to 120 Minutes.
