Are drummers obsolete now with the advent of drum machines?
No just you.
not being a full human machine prototype is obsolete
>>72718834
are synthists obsolete now with the advent of midi and vst's?
>>72718834
Nope. I like drum machines and use them, but if I want a lot be drum sound I'm gonna want a real drummer. Sounds better.
yesyes yes no possible could be? /
y sgso gsdj0o no no way no fucking way man YES!
>>72718834
Are bait threads getting more stale? Have a sage.
no because real drummers are way better at writing for drums than I am
drum machine bands always have shit drums because the person programming the machine doesn't know how to write for drums
>>72718882
I dunno I think this ones kinda cute. Her old band was actually pretty cool.
>>72718860
>synthists
>>72718866
What are you doing here grandpa?
>>72718999
sweet trips underage
>the advent of drum machines
Fucking what
>>72719034
that's completely apt syntax, you underage
>>72719090
Advent would imply that drum machines are somehow a new development. The whole question is stupid in the first place, anyhow
>Hurr, underage
drum machines aren't good for fills, flourishes, solos, or multiple changes in tempo and dynamics in a song
>>72719161
The word advent doesn't but I can at least see what you mean with the word "now" although it's still not inaccurate.
>>72718834
In a studio setting, maybe. Still don't think there's a good way to replicate the raw energy of a drummer at a live show yet though.
>>72719241
Semantics aside, it's still a dumb question because unless you want everything to be backed by a glorified metronome with no rubato or improvisation, we still need drummers
>>72718834
Are pianists obsolete now with the advent of player pianos?
>>72718870
this
>>72719283
Drum machines allow swing etc.
Some drum sequencers don't quantize at all, in which case the producer is basically like a drummer but only with his fingers.
How the fuck is it the year 2017 and there still isn't authentic-sounding drum machines? I get that the stereotypical drum machine sound has a certain aesthetic that is appropriate for some songs but how is there not some sort of drum machine that's even close to sounding like real drums?
>>72720040
Yeah but then the comparison is meaningless because it's just a drummer playing a different kit, so there's no sense in saying a drummer is obsolete
>>72720057
Those are called sample based drum vst.
Nope.
If you legit think so, jut go listen to some good jazz drummer live and see how the drums can be played in an amazingly organic and honestly unreproduceable way on good hands.
how can our music be real if our drums aren't real?
>>72721111
True
>>72721111
Check'd
>>72721321
Nothing is real.
Welcome to post-modernism.
