almost bought this record yesterday but I never listened. Is it worth 19.99?

>>72717187
Still struggling on that one
>>
>>72717355
its more of a physical thing, like as you keep listening you just sort of tune out the high pitched noises and get conditioned. The most powerful music experience ive ever had not being high was listening to untitled while staring at the ceiling and crying my eyes out
>>
>>72717187
This sucks, I can't take it. I listen to a lot of abrasive and loud music but this feels like it's intentionally obnoxious.

I don't wanna adapt to it either, my ear drums just do not feel good listening to it.
>>
Slint was one of the worst sounding albums I've ever heard the first 5 listens, but I eventually like the fort song and then after my 10th listen I love it
>>
>>72717672
spiderland?
>>
>>72717672
Really, one of the worst? Were the guitars really that off-putting to you that it was unbearable?

The record sounds amazing, the only thing you have to warm up to are the sharp guitar tones.
>>
>>72717187
I liked it better in the beginning. Then it quickly got boring. It's not painful to listen to or whatever people say, it's just that the songs are too long/boring and I miss Panda's vocals which come on the later albums. Avey's singing is too prepubescent most of the time. I love the artwork and ideas here but the execution is not for me. A solid 7/10 at best for me. I don't think I'll ever get into it as much as I'd like.

>>72717112
This one. Song by song I started loving it after a month and it's still a solid pop album.

This one. Took me months before I've realised how good it is.

>>72716941
Funny, this was actually one of the few records that clicked with in me instantly. After hearing the first 30 seconds of teenage riot, I was sold completely. I don't think that this album has a deeper layer that only unfolds after multiple listents, it's just fun and very well written noise-rock.
>>
>>72717945
I live in a shithole of a country but I have no problem paying 20$ to LPs.

Idk if struggle is the right word, but this album grows steadily with each listen.

>>72716941
Still waiting for this one to present itself after 3 or 4 listens. Is there somewhere else I should start with SY?

>>72716860
I feel like Hallelujah hits you right away.
>>
>>72717112
Animal Collective is the only band I've not only grown away from, but now find to be absolute garbage. In the Flower is good, every other song on that record is a mess.

>>72716941
didn't much care for it five-or-so years ago, revisited recently (along with a more thorough dive into their discography) and it's a fucking masterpiece – a word I don't usually throw around.

At first I just thought this was boring faux indie rock shit for insecure white girls but then after several listens it is a personal favorite.
>>
>>72716860
How the fuck did you struggle listening to tago mago, its a masterpeice
>>
I used to find the sound of this album so abrasive and now it's one of my most comfy albums

>>72719561
this for me as well, I kept coming back because of title track and then I ended up loving Elevation, Venus, See No Evil, etc..
>>
>>72718028 have you listened to trout mask replica by beefheart
>>
>>72720278
Holy shit I used to listen to this shit on the daily.
>>
>>72720278
This one hit pretty quick for me because it starts with Little Fury Things, which is like the catchiest song ever. A lot of the other tracks took a second listen.

>>72719663
I feel like atleast Rebellion and Haiti bring some immediacy to the album. It is a grower though.

The first time I heard VI Scose Poise I thought it was a joke
Now it's one of my favorite songs on the album

>>72719561
Yeah I used to feel like this was kinda boring and slow-paced but now I love it
Youth of America is still the superior 10-minute post punk track tho
>>

came here to post this

>>72722494
I liked the instrumentation on that but the vocals are just abhorrent
>>
>>72723012
blasphemy. how dare you disrespect my Hollis.
>>
>>72723113
His voice is cringe worthy and generic
>>
>>72718007
This album is golden. Sad it always gets overshadowed by later albums like >>72716941
>>
>>72722314
I still don't get this.
>>
>>72723193
Nothing to get. It's indie shit
>>

>Animal Collective is the only band I've not only grown away from, but now find to be absolute garbage. In the Flower is good, every other song on that record is a mess.
Sorry, I know this is just your opinion, but how can you think this? Every song on the album is perfection in terms of craft and sound, within the genre it created/is.
I agree with the opinion that it is a grower, but to say it is the opposite is plan confusing. The more I listen to individual tracks or the album as a whole, even nearly a decade down the line, the more polished and perfected the sound they achieved it.

I know this board sees it as a meme album a lot of the time, but there is absolutely no denying that it is a well crafted album.
>>
>>72723306
O P I N I O N S
>>
>>72719663
Kind of disagree with you, anon.

I find this album to be so plain and generic sounding, the older it gets. The hit tracks seem especially tired and uninspired compared to other similar bands.

Suppose that is part of their success though - easy to listen to and doesn't require a lot of attention to like.
>>
>>72719561
Try Bad Moon Rising, it's one of the only SY albums that clicked for me instantly.
>>
>>72723306
Are you genuinely retarded? Do you have zero musical education? MPP did not invent any genre; if it invented anything, it's nu-males such as yourself.

>>
>>72723820
The best way to get into Xiu Xiu is to start form their recent albums, at least thats how i got into them
>>
>>72718028
Holy shit this.

This whole album has such great presentation and mixing and some of the lyrics are almost silly. But it's really abrasive and haunting at first.

>>72720324
Such a Scream is one of my favorite Waits tracks and you can directly hear the Beefheart influence.

Had never listened to Zappa before. Thought it was too silly and stupid, the sounds too grating and non musical.
Now I love it and even went from despising Catholic Girls to it being one of my favorite tracks, up there with Dong Work for Yuda.
